I'm still SHOCKED by the obscene rise in billionaire election spending since Citizens United in the NYT piece, despite already knowing that election corruption w/ $ was profound. (Recall that BCRA fought dangerous campaign $ in *2002*)

The article data didn't have a graph, so I made one to show it.

Section 230 Turns 30; Both Parties Want It Gone—For Contradictory Reasons
Here's what's strange about Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, the law that made the open internet possible: Both sides of the traditional political spectrum hate it. But for opposite reasons. That, alone, should highlight that something is wrong in their analysis. Republicans hate it because they say it lets websites censor conservative speech. Democrats hate it because they say it lets websites host dangerous disinformation.

If I tore my ACL, I’d require bed side service and a million snacks for over a year. This lady different different
honestly feels unbelievable: Lindsay Vonn attempted and completed her training run today, a week after tearing her ACL, hitting a top speed of 74 mph.
They haven't fixed her ACL, it's just flopping around in there. And her other knee is made out of titanium. Very literally built different

Schumer: "There should be no masks, except in the most unusual of circumstances -- you know, some guy was put up by a terrorist group or something"

WASHINGTON (AP) - Homeland Security Secretary Noem says every DHS officer deployed to Minneapolis is now being issued a body-worn camera.

The quality of Rufo’s reasoning and writing is genuinely poor. It’s vibes based shade so afraid of actually making the accusation it implies.
Chris Rufo is so upset about the Minneapolis protests that he is resorting to anti-Nordic racism christopherrufo.com/p/the-curse-...

I wonder how counter culture of the 60s will be compared to that of the 2010s/20s. There’s a bit of “conforming to non-conformity” in both but my hunch is that there are bigger contrasts especially driven by social media trends.
Just a very clear commitment to telling a particular audience what they want to hear regardless of the facts. It doesn't matter how popular anti-vax pseudoscience is, that doesn't make it true. Weird how brave contrarians all seem to think in the same directions bsky.app/profile/osit...
Turns out that Bari Weiss's all hands at CBS today is to announce she's bringing on some anti-vax guys and Niall Ferguson. www.axios.com/2026/01/27/b...

Why would he try to draw a through line from “exec branch believes a state didn’t provide assistance” to “exec branch can kill you in the street”
Blanche: "Remember, what we all saw in that 10 or second video is not the full story. Every American should know that. The story goes way beyond that. It starts with the fact that literally for months we have received 0 assistance from the state of Minnesota."

I consistently underestimate how crazy people in SF are. These are our best and brightest? Can’t rise above trendy pseudoscience
The San Francisco 49ers are looking into EMFs from a nearby electrical substation as the cause of injuries this season.

Pseudoscience often finds fertile ground among professional athletes. There are a lot of wellness orbiters around them trying to make a bundle.
Niners to look into 'everything,' including substation theory
Niners GM John Lynch said the team will look into "everything" to find out why injuries continue to pile up year after year, including an investigation into the viral electrical substation conspiracy ...

Newsom has crazy Jekyll and Hyde vibes to me. Sometimes poignant and bold. Other times, a clear sheep without a vision.
Newsom: "It was remarkably boring. It was remarkably insignificant. He was never going invade Greenland. It was never real."

Thank you Chuck Schumer for delivering the solutions for 2023 today because pretty much nothing has changed since then
Schumer as a major American metro is being brutally occupied by Trump goons: "The affordability crisis will be our focus throughout 2026 because that's what the American people are demanding"

Wow she literally said this. Lol. Lemme get real hyped for “a piece of broccoli” and “one other thing”
Brooke Rollins: "We've run over 1,000 simulations. It can cost around $3 a meal for a piece of chicken, a piece of broccoli, corn tortilla, and one other thing. So there is a way to do this that actually will save the average American consumer money."

After 9 years of Trump supporter diner interviews, it’s very obvious who is actually shutout of the media narrative and the disproportionate priority placed on anything sympathetic to Trumpian framing. Corporate media is begging their dealer for clicks and can’t stand the idea of making him mad
I'm with Jake here: in fact I'm very surprised that anyone can see it otherwise. From where I am (given the information I am seeing etc) it seems *obvious* that the talk of a vibe-shift was dramatically mistaken and Americans have both in response to polling questions and on the street been furious.
I see this take around from time to time and totally disagree. ICE just murdered a woman standing up to them. No Kings is among the largest protests in history.

The complacency is coming from elites in media, business, universities, and the Democratic leadership

Great way to capture part of the human failing in our news coverage. Those with access get an ego boost from utilizing that access, even if nothing of news value is obtained.

It’s the vibe of news work, privileged to very few, and disconnects them from critics. And worse, biases their reporting
To someone who values truth and informing the public, this is BSed me vs. didn't waste my time.

Sure, getting real answers is better than getting nothing, but getting the run around is worse.

To someone who values the ego boost of speaking to a famous, powerful person, getting BSed is much better.
From the perspective of reporting the news, it doesn’t strike me that there is a functional difference between a president who answers the phone at 4:30am in the morning but doesn’t answer a reporter’s questions, versus a president who doesn’t agreed to be interviewed.

The reason they're so focused on trans teens is that people who transition younger typically blend into society better. To the extent that they're willing to tolerate our existence in society at all, they'd rather we be easily identified by our appearance/voices/etc.
Cis people really have no idea how it feels to watch a regime hold a press conference to admit, on camera, the pogrom against trans people they've been waging for 11 months is not only real, but they're going to double down on genocide and try to wipe out all the children first.

Just because some fentanyl is found in hospital settings doesn’t mean some other fentanyl cannot be considered a WMD. WMDs are very context dependent /s
The reason they’re doing this is to claim the right to murder Americans involved in the drug trade under the guise of “fighting terrorism”

lol yeah. Losing roughly 1 in 6 supporters is a big change! It’s a deviation that would throw an election from clear win to a clear loss.

When you dress like Christmas, you gotta endorse war crimes. Just a fact.

"Righteous strikes." "Entirely lawful."

They keep booking these guests thinking that they’re informing Americans by asking “tough questions” into the air, and having them ignored.

If you want answers, invite actual experts. Look some people up. Do some “reporting” and find someone knowledgeable. Come on, already.
Kristi Noem refuses to directly answer a question about what Trump means by "remigration" -- a word that, as Kristen Welker notes, is often invoked by white nationalists in Europe
