I have heard of TTRPG mechanics being referred to as "a cage". I see them more as a ladder. Maybe in the style of a jungle gym. Still bars, will prevent forward motion. Can feel cage-like. But if you use them, you should achieve new heights. Good mechanics escalate a story, not confine it.

I cannot imagine a run of Deathmatch Island where I don't try to Break the Game. Which I find fascinating because I am very much someone who plays video games in a way where I hate abusing glitches or finding faults in the system to leverage.

I will reiterate that I've never had cause to regret abandoning the former Twitter more than two years ago now, and have suffered neither personally nor professionally for doing so. Since I left it's become more toxic and, yes, evil. The people who are still there should really consider moving on.

I attribute Exalted to being the ttrpg that taught me that I just don't like heavy combat. Every edition seemed to focus on it more and more, when for years I saw it as the ugly hurdle we had to cross to get to the real juicy bits: the interpersonal drama between reincarnating heroes.
