Never be shy about asking straightforwardly for a contract. Find out your deadline, what exactly is expected of you, what the pay is, when it will be paid.
Asking for these things is not rude, it's a normal part of professional practice. Anyone who responds poorly is waving a red flag in your face!

Never be shy about asking straightforwardly for a contract. Find out your deadline, what exactly is expected of you, what the pay is, when it will be paid.

DayLITE attempted to hire me in 2022 with a vague pitch, offered only royalties, and was incredibly rude when I declined. There were rumours of him being a creep even then. Sad to see the unprofessionalism has gone on so long and shocked to read the depths of his behaviour (tw: sexual harrasment).💔

I painted some dragons for dayLITE and never got paid any royalties, which i had chalked up to the book not selling very much or something and forgot about it (i had a lot of other work at the time). But the conduct described here is abhorrent, peak of disgusting GM behaviour
