Cause once you start believing untrue shit, it's just a short hop to falling for the shitbirds.

A complementary pathology is that there's the perception that erring on the side of being too naive is somehow far worse than erring on the side of being too cynical, despite the fact that overly cynical predictions are wrong *all the fucking time*, wrong in just as consequential ways too!

Usually I reserve my predictions for things that will suck but I'm calling my shot here the Odyssey movie is gonna rule.

I'm not here for negativity about the Odyssey now that Nolan is making actual movies.

It is totally possible for data to be wrong. You cannot make definitive conclusions about it’s relative wrongness from your personal experiences when the universe the data is attempting to represent is “an economy composed of 340mn people”. You are not a serious person if you think you can.
This is a toddlers interpretation of the discussion. People are very clearly saying that the data doesn’t seem to line up with their experience. The enlightened centrist answer is “social media is lying to you”. Stancil is the cringiest of them because early on he explicitly went after
Literally a toddler’s understanding of the world. “Overall, a thing is not happening more than it has in the past.” interpreted as “oh so you think it happens to no one?! you think the people that it’s happening to are lying?!”

You believe surveys over peoples lived experience?

Lived experience is so important we asked thousands of people about that experience! In a way that mathematically ensured a broad and diverse range of experiences! Asking about peoples' lived experience along dozens of different dimensions!

JFK didn't talk like normal people talk. I wouldn't let normal people talk me into a lifeboat if we'd already hit the iceberg.

Low unemployment led to higher wages for poor service workers. This irritated middle class people who enjoy inexpensive services.

They metabolized this by thinking that if it annoyed them, a well to do person, it must have been really hard on the poor. (who got the raises)

“WHY ARE YOU DENYING MY LIVED EXPERIENCE”
So many people On Here think every single fucking thing is about them. Carly Simon was singing about you, even though she said she wasn’t!

I'm developing a kind of cosmopolitan-chauvinism, I guess you could call it anti-feudalism, as a through line in my politics. The peasant-brained and the local landed gentry are the enemy. Sort of funny that this could describe being either rabidly capitalist or communist.

Every week of the year, I rank the comics I read from best to worst and give them a numerical score so that by December I know empirically what the best comics were.

It’s once again time for THE RANKENING!

this is a perfectly good theory which presents the problem that it has not happened once in american history
Independent, pro-worker, class warrior candidates can absolutely beat Republicans in red states if they are not tainted by the Democratic Party brand. The labor movement can make this happen systematically.

It's the left's version of climate denialism -- completely immune to data and something we need to change. We can't solve our actual problems if we're not living in reality.
