I guarantee my posts here will careen from nonfiction film to poker and other esoterica and if that gives you cognitive whiplash, well, same.

I first saw NATCHEZ on something of a whim last August when I was up in Middlebury, VT to speak on a panel about journalism at the film festival there, and I have thought about it an awful lot since then. It's starting its theatrical run, and worth your attention.

@thirdwalking.bsky.social a poker(ish) movie recently that flew way under the radar - THE ADULTS, (dir. Dustin Defá, starring Michael Cera) uses poker as a B plot to reveal the protagonist’s interior (at least that’s how I read it). But is also a quite realistic depiction of small scale home games.

I hope that somewhere out there a Native Alaskan filmmaker is writing an indie film about a group of teenage friends centered on Cali Swag District’s 2010 performance at Club Millennium in Anchorage.

I’m not normally one for four dimensional chess theories, but if I wanted to decimate a whole raft of arts and media nonprofits, forcing public media to raise billions of dollars would sure do the trick

In our slide towards a fascist state, this is what a Missouri legislator said as he rejected the will of 58% of Missourians to raise the minimum wage. “Of course the people voted for it. It’d be like asking your teenager if he wanted a checkbook. You know, they’re going to vote for it every time.”

Israel isn't in control of the United States. This is just who the US is and has always been.

Saying we're controlled is just a way of saying we're victims. We're not. We're an imperial power that likes war because it's profitable and enriches our oligarchs.

That's it.
