Hi! I’m Kieffer Ferraris, an early-career pediatric infectious diseases doctor from the Philippines.☺️

Interests include AMS and MDR bacterial infections, especially in peds practice. Curious also about how adult IDs approach these and how these can be applied to peds.

Words matter.
It’s time to retire the term oral “step-down.”
It implies inferiority of the oral route—and doesn’t align with stewardship principles.
Terms like IV to oral switch or oral transition better promote optimal antimicrobial stewardship.
What terms do you use—and why? #idsky

Vaccines can be given at birth up to adulthood as VPDs do not choose their target. Update your immunization with your MD or with your local health center.

Paenibacillus dendritiformis is captivating. Just look at that colony morphology! This "social" microbe forms dynamic communities that behave like a multi-cellular organism; with specialized cell differentiation, communication and linguistics. It reminds us what we can achieve when we work together.

This doctor tried to justify practicing medicine while infected with measles by saying he only treated patients who had measles.

Measles has a reproductive value of 12. It’s airborne. Even if you “only” saw patients with measles, you likely infected multiple others.

This should be criminal
