This makes me sick.

Republicans in DC are manufacturing a crisis. They’re choosing not to send out SNAP benefits in a cynical attempt to gain political leverage.

This is truly Washington at its worst.

And certainly not as important as the three (3!) separate front page stories on how George Santos got his commutation, none of which actually have a clue of how he got his commutation. It's a great tribute to the investigative fail that is NYT.

This is also helpful.
Trump's mechanism to pay the troops during the shutdown is by far the most illegal budgetary action he's taken as POTUS, potentially setting the stage to break everything.

It's also needless because Congress would easily pass a troop pay bill if Johnson were willing to gavel in.

Long thread.

Thank you, Senator Ossoff, for standing firm against the Republican funding bill that if passed would double healthcare premiums for a million Georgians.
Jon Ossoff is sticking closely to his party’s strategy of focusing on the battle over health care — and has emerged as a lesson in the limits of GOP efforts to focus pressure on the Democrats’ soft spots.

Such a critical message from @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social
Imagine you were dealing with a person who would report that there was two and there was also this other two but didn't want to add them up to get to four, because getting all the way to four felt like making a statement and they didn't want to alarm anybody or be accused of making an accusation.
Stupid Coup Month Three: Two Plus Two Is Still Four
Imagine you were on a ship, and reports kept coming to you that the new captain and his crew had done a series of strange things--jettisoned the anchor, blew some holes in the hull, shredded the sails...

The fight for our democracy is not coming. It is here.

When I say that we have months, not a year, to save democracy, I'm talking about this coordinated, relentless legal assault on political dissent.

With Orders, Investigations and Innuendo, Trump and G.O.P. Aim to Cripple the Left
The president and his allies in Congress are targeting the financial, digital and legal machinery that powers the Democratic Party and much of the progressive political world.

“Listen to the women, For The People.”
Extraordinary moment — Nancy Pelosi issues a statement calling on Democratic senators to reject the House funding bill, i.e. to defy Chuck Schumer.

"Democratic senators should listen to the women," she says, referring to Murray/DeLauro who want a 1-month stopgap bill instead.

Here’s the fight:

Trump is already shutting down the government through DOGE.

We can’t give Republicans a blank check to slash critical services and steal from people who work for a living.

We need to hold the line, stop the GOP CR, and get back to the negotiating table.
