Re: The Louvre jewel heist

I forget to realize sometimes that most people don't follow art world news, so for those who don't?

"Lost painting/jewel/sculpture resurfaces!" isn't really that unusual a news story. And unless they're found, it's what'll probably what'll happen with the Louvre pieces.

vancouver had insane gravity clouds this evening and I got to watch them for a bit

it's so surreal, it's like a solid blanket you could see go on for miles in the sky www.youtube.com/shorts/s76kr...

And here we go, result from the Judith River Formation #paleostream! This late Cretaceous formation might be full of charismatic megafauna but it is currently understudied and a total mess when it comes to stratigraphy. In this scene I wanted to focus on two aspects...

I love that the Boston cop slide never got fixed and now people just willingly go down it in tribute. It’s basically a national landmark at this point

Palaeoplatyceros hispanicus- a muntjac-like deer from the Middle Miocene of Spain. Numerous antlers found on Otero Hill in Palencia allow to trace the age-related dimorphism of these animals. The illustration shows an adult, possibly even old, animal and a younger deer in the background.

The trees are beautifully ablaze. Holding on tight to this last gasp of autumn color before the winter gray settles in until March.

What's great is in PDX you might just see this dude strolling down the street or at a food truck, or rollerblading past at 2am. Because Portland. I don't know if "dude who just lives there" counts as a mascot.
In Japan, tourism to Portland, Oregon, is promoted by a grinning blue monster named Odnarodude. He’s at a Portland artisan event in Jiyugaoka De Aone this weekend.

it's pretty funny how peppers produce capsaicin so they get eaten and dispersed long distance by birds instead of puny walking mammals, but then some apes decided "oh hey pain is fun actually" and now the plants made it to every part of the planet

hey i don’t usually make posts like these but i see a certain comic artist has made their way here, you might know him from his “daily life of a gay couple” comics, but he made this horribly transphobic comic and threw a temper tantrum when people called him out for it a while back, so look out

NEWS — The Oregon Department of Human Services has issued 100% of November SNAP benefits, per an alert on their website. I've received reports that the funds have already hit recipients' EBT accounts.

ALSO as a member of AuDHD feral wolf childhood: YES, people skills are LEARNED. YES YOU CAN (and yes it's hard but also: having the ability to make small talk and be openly nice to people is a vital skill whether you realize it or not).

You start bad at it but you can get better with practice.
and before you tap out some kind of furious response i was effectively a feral wolf child with XTREME Flavor Blasted ADHD and autist stuff and i still managed to put in the *work* over multiple years of concentrated effort to become reasonably good at small talk with strangers
