Hi, I’m Emma, an illustrator, comic artist, and sculptor with a propensity for drawing dinosaurs, monsters, aliens, and spaceships, but especially dinosaurs.

I'm working on a sci-fi comic with all of the above. Except dinosaurs, oddly no dinosaurs.

I can only do what I do because my wife has had a steady and reliable job for years.

Before that I did all sorts of random jobs to survive and barely had any energy to make art.

She’s the one that told me to quit my job to work on art. It took me a whole year before I took her up on the offer.

Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.

When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"

The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

This piece isn't quite done, but it fit the spooky vibes of the season so I'm posting the WIP.

Coming up with character names for alien characters is always a struggle.

You can come up with a great sounding name, then it turns out it's a horrible word in another language, or has a long entry on urban dictionary, or is already a name in a major sci-fi franchise.

What's next Emma?

Well, I'm for real taking time to work on my sci-fi story. While I do that I'll still poke at my paleoart.

The skulls and birds for the next 2 batches of the Dinosaurs Survived series are in the docket.

But my output is going to slow down (as if it were fast to begin with).
A glimpse of the work in progress mock ups at the next two series of Dinosaurs Survived prints and stickers. There are images of 10 birds and 10 dinosaur skulls and the formations the fossils are found in. Stock images of birds are thrown in to work out scale before the posing and illustration begins in earnest.
