Hi, I’m Emma, an illustrator, comic artist, and sculptor with a propensity for drawing dinosaurs, monsters, aliens, and spaceships, but especially dinosaurs.

I'm working on a sci-fi comic with all of the above. Except dinosaurs, oddly no dinosaurs.
While I was falling asleep last night my brain was like “coffee is just a form of herbal tea.”

Thanks brain.

I can only do what I do because my wife has had a steady and reliable job for years.

Before that I did all sorts of random jobs to survive and barely had any energy to make art.

She’s the one that told me to quit my job to work on art. It took me a whole year before I took her up on the offer.
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"

The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

Happy Halloween!

This piece isn't quite done, but it fit the spooky vibes of the season so I'm posting the WIP.

If I had “fuck you” amounts of money you wouldn’t see me driving a fancy sports car.

I would spend my money or more important things…

Like an Uncle Traveling Matt puppet from Fraggle Rock!!!

I want it or the Doozer so badly. 😩

Folks have been asking for it, and I'm happy to oblige.

I've printed the panoramic prints on smaller paper!!!

The smaller size is 8.5 x 25" compared to the 13 x 38" they've only been available in until now.

I'll have them at shows now going forward and in my store:

Coming up with character names for alien characters is always a struggle.

You can come up with a great sounding name, then it turns out it's a horrible word in another language, or has a long entry on urban dictionary, or is already a name in a major sci-fi franchise.

I'm writing a book
Writing a big ol' book
I don't know what I'm doing and I won't let people look.
I'll probably get distracted and write a little song.
I'm writing a book that's just way too long.

My friend Keith has been crafting this wonderful tale of Ellie that centers around depression. (And monsters)

Creating comics is hard and I've had the good fortune of seeing him go through the process and create something that means a lot to him.

Check it out!

What's next Emma?

Well, I'm for real taking time to work on my sci-fi story. While I do that I'll still poke at my paleoart.

The skulls and birds for the next 2 batches of the Dinosaurs Survived series are in the docket.

But my output is going to slow down (as if it were fast to begin with).

I went ahead and got stickers made of these 3 illustrations.

I'm my own boss, I can do what I want!

As always they're vinyl stickers and durable enough for cars, water bottles, laptops, and dare I say it, spacecraft.

Prove me wrong!
