Fun fact: I started out as a biology major at a small Christian college on the north shore of MA. I was there during the 2004 election, and my three months there served as a core foundation for my life—though not in the ways I expected—that I’m still unpacking.
Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took in college:

1. German history, 1918-1989
2. Modern European history, 1918-present
3. American Literature in the 1960s
4. Twentieth Century Latin American history
5. Ecology and Evolution

I’ve been thinking about the mom all day. The kids. The school staff and the impossible situation all of them were in.

"how the simple act of obtaining a menstrual pad for a pre-teen's first period turned into an underground operation involving a faith leader, multiple neighbors and a clandestine network of Minneapolis volunteers."

How an errand for a 12-year-old immigrant in Minneapolis became an underground operation
Some immigrants in Minneapolis have said they're scared to go out because of ICE agents across the city. When one 12-year-old needed to run an errand, it triggered a network of underground volunteers.

Angry Sun = pretty skies! If you're in a position to do so, it's worth looking for some aurorae with this one!
MUST READ thread before Monday night's forecasted G4 / SEVERE geomagnetic storm. Auroras could be seen as far south as the U.S.-Mexico border at times. Widespread mid-latitude displays are possible. Here's what you need to know to have a successful aurora chase tonight! 🧵

Finally testing negative again, the horrible headache is gone, and I can sing again, rather than croak. Still got some congestion but I feel worlds better.

Covid is kicking my ass 😞

Strongest positive line yet on day 10 during my rebound with full-on cold symptoms now. I know others have said it before, but most people wouldn’t have connected this week’s “cold” with last week’s fever/chills/brain fog, especially after so many negative tests. Covid is sneaky.
Covid is a beast. I tested negative for five days (day 3-8) but felt fatigued and like I had a concussion that whole time. Today, I can think without needing a nap, but I am slightly congested and just tested positive again.

if you've recently updated your phone or the bluesky app and had previously turned off automatic autoplay for videos and gifs, you may have to go to settings and turn it off again (that was my experience, at least).

Food insecurity in 2024 was almost the same rate it was during the Great Recession.... but sure everything is totally fine in our economy

My husband & I had a drink with Tenley Albright back in 2018, when we sat next to each other at the bar. Had a lovely convo! She only gave her last name at the time, but she gave us her # to meet up again (it didn’t work when we tried 😔). Saw her on TV later during a skating competition & went, oh!
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

Early Disney princess movies set an unrealistic expectation for me growing up: as an adult, I have never once had a little, unwanted house guest be so kind as to live in a tidy, and obvious, mouse hole.

I disagree w/ anyone who says baking isn’t forgiving. Dense bread = bread pudding. A gouged cobbler = a trifle. Today, dry kuchen gets extra icing & covering before fully cool, & it will be perfect tomorrow evening. You just need imagination—or 1c of butter/ shortening and 1.75c sugar in my case.
