Years of hard work and putting effort into the community, showing up for other writers, showing you care about the whole ecosystem, not just your damn self
They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +

As someone who DNF’d The End of Policing because it wasn’t helping me envision what such a world might look like, I need an entire collection of speculative fiction a la @kellyrobson.com’s “Blockbuster” in We Will Rise Again.

This this this this this. We desperately need fantasies of truth and justice because there sure as hell isn't any in the real world. Too much detective backstory gets in the way of that pleasure.
EXACTLY but most of the more recent adaptations misunderstand the importance of an inscrutable little man as a tool to realize our fantasies of truth & justice!!!

I was introduced to Dykes to Watch Our For as a baby gay in the late 90s and I felt like I was visiting friends within the comic strips via out alt-weekly newspaper.

Alison Bechdel's world showed me about queer chosen family and activism and the messy fun that is life lived with queer joy.
Sit down children, I'm going to tell you a story about the olden times.

Once, there was a young lesbian newly out of the closet. It was 1989. She was a third year student at the University of Alberta. And she had no idea how to lesbian.

It’s awards eligibility season in publishing, and I’d be honoured if you would consider All the Stars in the Daylight Sky in your reading for YA novels (Andre Norton Nebula, Lodestar, Locus).

I’m immensely proud of this book: a love letter to my Gaelic culture and our intergenerational bridges.
