I'm taking a wee break from work, but this article that I really enjoyed working on is published. It will be part of a great SI edited by Ivan Rajković and Jelena Vasiljević. I hope it contributes to the growing interest in human-nature politics in Yugoslavia.

"Girlhood At War" made it home!

Unlike anything I’ve written before, this book is a personal story about growing up during Serbia's war against Kosovo and about finding myself, at 14, translating for US NATO troops in its aftermath. (Yes, the young girl in these pictures is me.)

It's totally a chant against the establishment elites, who just coincidentally turned up to enthusiastically chant it as well and to take photos with the person leading the chant.

My article finally has an issue! A lot has changed in Serbia since I submitted this in 2021, but my point remains: young people are capable political actors who have their own ideas of what the future should look like.
In an article in Volume 51(3), Katarina Kǔsíc "delineates two defining parameters of intervention thinking that limit ongoing efforts at coeval engagement: predefined fields of visibility and the local-international binary."

Apparently talking about embassies burning in the 1960s is far more triggering to some people than watching tens of thousands die on livestream (for almost two years) today.

Please read the long version, someone actually emailed Milorad Dodik — I guess comic relief in a horrible situation?
