When I heard of “Clash of Civilizations” as an undergrad it immediately struck me as absurd 19th century racial determinism. It does not do the IR field any favors to take it seriously.

They are the first to being let go - not the staff at headquarters, who have their hands on the budget. These are highly educated people who often have taken quite significant risks to work in these fields in repressive contexts. 2/

It’s quite obvious, but worthwhile to highlight again: the cuts in funding for aid/development/human rights work in the West do not only have implications for Western NGOs or potential beneficiaries in the countries where projects are implemented. They also hit “local staff“ in these countries. 1/
