Trans woman. Mother of grown people. Chicagoan forever, long term Portlander. Writer-ish. And all at 43! ;)
I love both my adult children and I’m very glad they exist, but if you ask my advice (which mostly you didn’t) I would say have either one or zero children so that they don’t live on opposite coasts. This is Not Fun or Healthy. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do, tbh.

does anyone have recommendations of academic journals that regularly publish reviews of books of *film criticism*, that are quality journals but also very open to pitches/submissions from ""early career scholars"" with no publication history?

(This is a personal story and not an opinion about the topic of the week)
When I was 16 in Chicago I spent some nights sleeping in a Lesbian Avenger’s room in a co-op house. One night I got up to get water and ran into this twenty something cis guy grad student. He wanted to ask me something.

I can’t even read horror right now because my life is too anxiety provoking (temporarily), BUT you know I’ve got my preorder in. This is obviously going to be awesome

In which a trans woman discovers porn of herself she has no memory of making, only to find herself led to an unimaginably deeper evil

Can we maybe try and talk to Wachowskis into taking a crack at a Jem and the Holograms movie? The 2015 one tried to be “realistic,“ and that is ridiculous. Jem needs the Speed Racer treatment.

Oh also I did get to hold my grandbaby in NYC and that was beautiful and confusing and I want to do it again

At Camp Trans 99 I wore a camo vest every day (because it was the camo vest I wore every day the year I was 17) and wow does my youngest kid look way cooler than I did back then wearing it to orientation at art school. I’m really glad I saved it.

I ordered! And now I get to find out if I’ve once again accidentally forgotten my previous preorder and preordered a second copy! Which at least solves the fights in my multiply trans family over who gets to read things first

if you're trans and you're interested in publishing a print zine on space/place, time, spatiality, etc. now is the time to hit me up
Other Spaces is a nascent trans zine press and tape label. We publish work on space, time, and spatiality. We have a web page.

Why, yes, I am a 43 year old transsexual grandmother now.

And that grandbaby? Very small. And all the way on the East Coast 😭

It is easy to feel this way but I truly think, for trans writers at least, writing books now is urgent. Write good books about your friends, get them printed, get them widely distributed, get them in the world. There has never before been an opportunity like the one we currently possess to do this.
is there anything more pointless right now that writing a book? feels that way to me

In a few days I’ll be a 43 year old grandma. I’ve been training… tissues in the purse, hard candy in a bowl. I’m ready. (ps this means I’ll have to come to NYC occasionally because that’s where my granddaughter will be so if you have NYC recommendations pass them on please)

Oh, no, I became 43 and I’m still not fluent in Italian and my nonna and nonno are in their 90s and getting impatient

Now that Trump has passed a bill that provides massive tax cuts for the upper end of income distribution, while cutting critical services that help the poor, I hope everyone understands that local efforts directed at the same is basically a statement that the Trump don’t go far enough.

This post was brought to you by me having an extra ticket to see Clifford at the Hollywood Theatre tonight ;) but instead of going with you, Bluesky, I’m going with my ex husband’s not-quite-wife. Or something. :)
Where does everyone stand on Clifford (the film with Martin Short as a strange child, not the Big Red Dog)?

I made it to the coast for the first time in a few years, with my visiting brother in tow. PNW coast > everywhere for outdoorsy moments.

really can’t stand the “well you’re in New York, you’ll be alright” attitude. I’m not nearly as worried about myself as I am about the young and disadvantaged people that cannot just flee to somewhere a little safer

My older brother is coming to town for possibly the whole summer (we are both sort of new empty nesters). I’m really excited about all the movies&music we can go see together&the parks we can hang out in. I have 7 siblings but never as an adult spent more than a week in the same city as any of them.

Also, let MA be proof that a wealth tax not only didn't cause a mass exodus of millionaires, there are more of them than before the tax was enacted, & it raised about 2 and a half billion dollars in 2023 alone
Not fleeing: New report shows more wealthy residents in Mass., 2 years into 'millionaire's tax'
Despite previous concerns, Massachusetts' "millionaire's tax" hasn't seemed to deter high-earners from continuing to live here, according to a new study from the Institute for Policy Studies.
