I know that many people are rightfully shaken by how bad it's getting. I know that many of the same people have failed to recognize how bad things have been. And I do wonder if we're just going to return to the silence of the killings of people who don't matter.

Cacho's Social Death remains so relevant. In it, she explains how our national identity is grounded in the idea that some people are ineligible for personhood. There are valued citizens (Renee Good, Alex Pretti). And there are people who lack human value (Keith Porter, Silverio Villegas Gonzalez).

My anecdotal sense is that something has broken through to the general public since yesterday. I have noted 5 posts on Fedbook from people I know who NEVER post anything they consider "political." All of them have posted some version of "enough is enough."

The Strib has identified him. Alex Pretti. Another 37-year-old executed for standing up for our immigrant neighbors. For shame.

I'm sorry for the person who was beat to death and killed. My sincere condolences to their loved ones. ICE is going to continue to kill people because the purpose of a system is what it does. It is not what it says it does or what you hope it does. Maybe USians will finally confront this truth.

This will be a defining moment for the ordinary liberal. It’s an incredible opportunity to shift well-meaning people away from credulous analysis based on what people in power *say* to analysis based on what systems, structures, and institutions *actually do.”
I broke down the ICE “reforms” being proposed by Dem leadership. tl;dr: They totally avoid touching ICE’s funding, in key ways actually increase ICE funding and instead focus on meaningless busywork like “body cams” and “more training”.
Good’s killer was a 10-year ICE veteran, himself a trainer, and recorded the killing. What good would more training and more cameras have done? By @ahjohnson.bsky.social

Once again: Focusing on their lack of training is a mistake. With "better training," their violence would simply cost more, and they would still kill whoever they wanted, but make it look more professional — to make people more comfortable, the way many of you are at ease with local police violence.

I'm looking for witnesses/victims of DHS retaliating against people who were recording their agents (ICE, Border Patrol, FPS, etc.) in Southern California.

This is for LA Press Club v. Noem case, but victim does NOT need to be press/journalist. Everyone has right to record. We're fighting for all.

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

When I called my rep @replsimon.bsky.social @lateefahsimon.bsky.social about ICE last week, her staffer endorsed reform measures but conspicuously avoided the word “abolish.“ (I don’t even remember the staffer‘s saying “defund.“) Please demand ICE‘s abolition, @replsimon.bsky.social.
It's always been abolish ICE.

For the first time, more Americans support abolishing ICE than oppose it. But Republicans are proposing hundreds of millions in funding for this lawless agency.

I'll oppose this bill. We cannot give more money to an agency responsible for terrorizing our communities.

This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.
