One of the things I have been most wrong about is that I thought once the impacts of climate change manifest we would see bold climate action, especially in scientifically literate progressive cities. Instead we get glossy vision documents, plans, and self congratulation while doing too little.

Dear @wadems.org: It is ridiculous that we don't have free school meals for all in our state. These are the standards used to determine eligibility. In this state, many well above these levels struggle. With the federal government cutting many benefits, these meals become even more important.

If we’re going to rely as a city on public transportation to get our kids to school, as many cities do, we need to build routes and headways with schools in mind, not just downtown commuters.

We took a King County Metro bus to this trailhead for $2.75 (kids ride free). Bonus: we got to snuggle en route to hiking, instead of stressing our way through traffic. This sort of joyful, public, climate-friendly access to nature should be year-round, in all the places. ❤️

Poor shade planning is a chronic issue in Seattle’s new parks and something I’d like City Council to address. Shade, and shelter, is critical to making our public spaces usable year round and maximizing the value of our investments. This is a climate adaptation issue!!
