In 2014 I worked with a group of year 7’s making glass poppies to commemorate the outbreak of WW1.
I remember how shocked they were by the photos I showed them of
boys so like them, all in uniform, leaving for France. Some lied about their age to recruiters
one soldier in the trenches was just 12

I have never in my life slept in the afternoon before I started living here. Not every afternoon even now, but it has become a habit, that snooze after lunch (which is now at about 2.30pm) there’s a stillness that descends if you let it and the warm afternoon air covers you like a blanket…

Nigel Farage says he wants to 'raise aspiration' by cutting the minimum wage for young people (currently £10), but reducing tax for young people earning over £100k. Presumably he wants them to just ask their stockbroker fathers to fix them up with a job in The City, like he did.

#inktober day 14 'Trunk'

The memory of an Oak is written within
Unseen til death
Memories of
sunrise and sunset
hard winters
dark summers
gentle rain
plenty and drought
More changes than our memory ever holds
And now
We trace those years with our fingers, touching history we can only imagine

I have never had a cat that didn't love a bit of freelance shredding, the maniacal expression and the high speed dash round the room afterwards are particularly pronounced in our current grey princess

Oh and exhibit A on the right is my armchair…🙄😬
