What a terrifying fucking time to be alive.
You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

I may be okay but the collateral damage is going to be something to behold.

I love this movie so much, especially Dan O'Bannon as Sergeant Pinback. "Time to go sleepy-bye, you useless piece of garbage."

I just watched "The Way to Eden" from Star Trek:TOS season 3, and it was every bit as bad as I remember, but it reminded me of this picture of an SF landmark I recently took.

I was an English Major back in 1981 and decided to take an intro to computer science class as a lark.

Also, interesting use of cis and trans prefixes for "Atlantic" by Thomas Jefferson in 1788, in case anyone claims these are made up terms. From docsouth.unc.edu/southlit/jef...

If you're enjoying Ken Burn's American Revolution series like I am, I recommend this as an excellent companion piece.

No, @raskin.house.gov, we should not welcome the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene this easily. If she renounced the conspiracies, the anti-semitism, and the transphobia, and if she apologized directly to the colleagues she's maligned, then maybe, but certainly not yet.
Raskin: We are a big tent. We must be a huge, vast tent. I say this is a party that’s got room for Marjorie Taylor Greene if she wants to come over.

Hey, um, bleeps, can anyone point me at a good essay on the necessary elements for really good world building in genre fiction? Thanks!

Not so much in the news today is that Catholic bishops also decided to ban all gender affirming care at Catholic hospitals, so you'll forgive me if I don't heap praise on the bishops for their ethics.

Why on Earth, @jay.bsky.team @aaron.bsky.team @support.bsky.team, would Sarah Kendzior be suspended? Hers is an important voice in today's political and social environment. Please explain yourselves or fix this mistake.
Why? Sarah Kendzior is one of the main reasons I moved here. If you're going to just be Twitter-lite than there's no point in staying. You can't suspend an account of her magnitude and expect it to go unnoticed and unchallenged @jay.bsky.team @aaron.bsky.team @support.bsky.team
Hello @support.bsky.team

I heard from Sarah Kendzior @sarahkendzior.bsky.social that her account was suspended.

Can you please look into this and reinstate her account? She’s a published author and scholar on authoritarianism. Her presence here is valuable.

My message to aging Democrats who are too tired to fight. "Cool it, man, you had your chance."

If anything good can come of Chuck Schumer allowing these eight Senators to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, it would be if a majority of Democrats holding office rise up and demand new leadership. Mind you, I'm not holding my breath.

After the glimmer of hope offered by the election, today's SCOTUS decision on gender markers and these upcoming rules on Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement are a sobering reminder that we still have a tough 3 years ahead followed by many years of recovery to get back to where we were.

If Democrats get control of the Senate next year, there should be zero votes on any new justices for the term, and if they win the White House and Congress in 2028, SCOTUS reform damn well better be one of the first things they do.
6 Nov 2025 -- In a ruling from its shadow docket, an unsigned Supreme Ct decision backs Trump emergency request to force passport for trans people to record their bio-sex, finds it does not constitute differential treatment.

It was a rejection of the entire administration and Dems should see this as a signal to become an actual opposition party. On everything. You don't stop the shutdown. You don't approve another appointee. You do nothing at all. The voters saved you, not the other way around. LEARN TO LEAD.
On a call with reporters, DNC chair Ken Martin responds to JD Vance claiming Dems only won big last night because races were in blue states.

"Well that's bullshit. We won in red counties, blue counties, purple counties," Martin says. And it was all "a rejection of Trump."

Republicans are still trying to make a "deal" happen where squishy Democrats pass the CR in exchange for a phony vote on extending ACA subsidies. I wrote my Senators using @resist.bot to say "no deal".
