Hoping for 🎶nothing but blue skies from now on🎶
I post boring bits of my life & anything I find interesting.
If you followed me from the old place because of hockey; don't bother. I stopped watching hockey a few years ago.

Dr Wells and @senatorpaulasimons.bsky.social (and others) are doing great work on behalf of Alberta, and all of Canada.
Thanks for doing a better job of representing us than some of our elected representatives.
Yesterday, I asked the Government Representative in the Senate how the Federal Government would assure the UCP would abide by the Canada Health Act and, in turn, work to protect access to and delivery of public health care in Alberta.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #DivingForFood (birds that dive under water for food). My bird nemesis is the Kingfisher (I hear their alarm call as, "Good luck, haha, photographer!") as I continue to try to get a GOOD dive shot. This one will have to do, for now :) #birds #birdphotography #wildlife

15 (maybe more) for me but I've always described myself as a picky eater.
Of those, some of them I would eat if they were the only alternative (beef, chicken) but the rest ... no.
Ranch dressing, mayonnaise, olives, cottage cheese, blue cheese, hot dogs 🤮
7 for me how about y’all ?

I think I am going one step further and never visiting the US again. I have friends there and there are places I always wanted to visit as a tourist, but I just don't feel comfortable with what has happened. Maybe things will change ... but ...
Because the US keeps insulting our country including our dead soldiers who died doing nothing for America in Afghanistan. I don’t think we return to normal numbers for a long time. I’m not travelling to the US until Trump is long gone and the government starts following court orders.
Unlike most travel boycotts, which tend to fizzle over time, Canadians show no sign of relenting on a national movement that cost the U.S. $4.5 billion in 2025.

I'm a big believer in fewer musicians as backup for Tiny Desk concerts = better; but I know Luke & Melissa. I also have heard this trio. They closed out Interstellar Rodeo Winnipeg first night of the first year. Magic!

One of the most expressive singer-songwriters of her generation, Sarah McLachlan's deeply felt and virtuosic performance is miraculous.

Just listening to a podcast that I know had Peter Attia as a past guest (I didn't listen to that episode because I had the internal ick signal the first time I heard Attia talk). This is the first time that I've heard a host address this issue directly

Randomly started singing a song out loud in my home office and was surprised to hear that I was singing Sloop. John B by The Beach Boys.
I haven't heard that song in a long time, so why is it in my brain?🤷‍♀️

I'm not watching the Olympics because I don't watch anything these days, but the sliding events always remind me that my facial scars came from a tobogganing incident. In true 60s fashion, my friend's mom dropped 4 kids off at the 'ski hill' outside of town where we could toboggan on the road.

As someone who entered the workforce in the 1980s in a role that had been 100% dominated by men (in the company I was working for), I can tell you that being in a female package was not advantageous.
Amir's whole 🧵calls out all of the ways that 'merit-based' is a lie.
Start with biology.

For example, 50% of human brains are in female bodies. If all brains have an equal chance of being smart, then if you hire less than 50% of women, you disproportionately leave smart brains aside for no reason other than their female packaging.

That's not merit!

These lyrics keep running through my head ...
🎶I think I've seen this film before
And I didn't like the ending
I'm not your problem anymore🎶
Although, with apologies to Taylor I sing it as 'but, you're not my problem anymore'

If only gun violence was a halftime show.

If only food insecurity and loss of healthcare was a halftime show.

If only children being bombed was a halftime show.

If only the threat to democracy was a halftime show.

Then maybe there would be this much outrage about those things.

Gordie Howe taught us to protect our space with our elbows. He’d probably be fine with the bridge being left unopened rather than lower those elbows.

More fun Ontario weather. My friend lives in that area and she says that it has been snowing and blizzarding since November. She's not wrong

"Show some courage, would you please?"👏
I've been saddened today to learn that the University of Alberta is going down MAGA road and wants to abolish Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

So I've written to University President Bill Flanagan, warning him of the legal risks. Because the University may need suing.

Otters! Love that Dumpster Dude saw otters on his recent photography trip.
A mama Sea Otter shares her shellfish lunch in the waves on a bay on Vancouver Island's west coast near Nootka Island. If you look closely you can see the shell opening rock on her belly :)

Because I end up thinking about random things, tonight I rewatched this video of Kipchoge running the first sub 2 hour marathon. His relaxed posture is my reminder to relax when doing cardio. Nasal breathe, shoulders down.

Somehow, a leaf of curly kale ended up in my load of laundry. It came through the washing machine intact. Curly kale is strong stuff! I guess my gut bacteria can break down what the washing machine can't 😀

This is a really good thread about hope. The only way we can create the 'something better' that we want to arise out of the current situation is to focus on hope & on the many small actions that we can all take.
Some of you are doing bigger things and I see that. You are appreciated.
I'm breaking my one photo post pattern today. On Friday, I attended a workshop that asked for submissions around 'hope'. We were asked to write a letter about hope. I said I'd rather send #photos. I've been looking for hope out on the streets for some time and I work selling #hope in my day job.

Because I don't use Spotify or Apple music, I had to wait till today to see the Opalite music video. Taylor Swift delivered. Every moment is perfect. And everything in that video is 1990s; I can say this because I lived it! The mall date 👍😀 The mall even looks like a '90s mall.

3/ There is a real tendency to invalidate any progress made if it isn’t yet “the ideal”, which negates the work people have done, the efforts people have made and the progress that has actually occurred.

Perfectionism doesn’t encourage hope, but despair. It doesn’t energize, it exhausts.
