There’s so much to be said about how cynical, how bloviating, how utterly beyond the pale this is, but the thing coming up for me most is the audacity to put such conditions on a symbolic gesture that actually does nothing to address the immediate mass starvation and genocide of an entire people.
🚨Here’s Mark Carney just now, announcing Canada’s (conditional) intent to recognize a Palestinian state in September:

Why on earth are we doing this to ourselves and our biosphere? 😩

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but buying a Kobo e-reader to use with the library app was such a great decision, even though my Kindle still works.

You're saying we gathered a bunch of left-brained, emotionally underdeveloped boys together into a semi-isolated bubble, told them they were the very cleverest boys in the world, told them that all rules & norms were merely "gatekeeping" preventing their brave "disruption" ...

and they went bad?!
How did Silicon Valley go from a hippie-adjacent place where people fostered their creativity turn into a malevolent force of right-wing destruction?

My conversation with Henry Farrell (@himself.bsky.social) about the roots of our current crisis:

“The kicker is that, contrary to the promises of state transportation depts, new & expanded highways consistently fail to reduce congestion. Instead of smoothing traffic flows, the added asphalt compels more people to drive until gridlock is as thick as before.” Via @davidzipper.bsky.social in Slate

I am so pleased with how bike and urbanism heavy my BlueSky is. Everything I loved about the old days on the bird app. 🥰 Merry Christmas to those who celebrate today!

It destroys me to know that kids still get killed stepping off school buses in 2024.
P1: Ok we need a vehicle to move some kids to school
P2: How about a bus?
P1: Perfect.
P2: Lets make it big and yellow so no one misses it
P1: Great

NY Mag'rs latest cover story shows exactly how damaging it is to have reporters who aren't tapped into the chronic illness or disability world writing abt this stuff. The vast majority of ppl w chronic illness do not support RFK, quite the opposite. Deeply misleading framing.

I feel like a key skill for lawyers must honestly be learning how to do the numbering and formatting in a Word document. I am tempted to involve my lawyer even at her incredibly high rate just to fix this problem for me. 😫

Nice opening, eh? 1/

My kid inherited a whole “Mr Men” book collection. Annoyed that the characters are all either “Little Miss Something” or “Mr Whatever”, I’ve decided to a “little” to the front of all the men too. Take that, Little Mr Tickle.

We needed a plumber and just FYI, Life Mechanical in Victoria sent out the same AFAB plumber who installed our hot water tank 5 years ago. Which means they are probably a good company to work for, and also I love a good tradesperson who isn’t a dude.
