General tips for Democrats who have lost the plot

We've reclaimed the frog
Less than 2% US imported beef comes from Argentina. Specifically, we are importing lean trimmings (pink slime). Trump removing tariffs will have 0 impact on beef prices. He's just throwing a smoke screen and the angry guys on TikTok are just looking for attention.

Glad driftglass is still out there doing the work. Tim Miller and his ilk have never understood "normies". That's why they were pushed out of the Republican party. They did not leave voluntarily.

Legacy media are just PR firms for the White House. The 4 countries cited in the EO export very little beef to the US. Argentina mostly sends trimmings. Removing tariffs for these countries will not lower prices. You would not know that from articles like this.

Trump scraps tariffs on beef, coffee and tropical fruit in a push to lower grocery store prices
President Donald Trump has announced the removal of U.S. tariffs on beef, coffee, tropical fruits and other commodities.

By turning it into a cultural issue rather than a material one with only one cogent side
I'm kind of baffled how the "moderates" have apparently all decided to turn against climate policy at once, just as China reaches green electrostate liftoff mode. I thought these people were all about National Greatness and making Hard Choices

I highly recommend Stories Are Weapons by Annalee Newitz.

Interesting and a propulsive read. One quibble is that there are too many books cited and now I have to read them all. Shout-out to Village Books in Bellingham for their Misinformation display. This is a banger.

The Caving 10: We demanded Republicans fund SNAP through 2026 and we were successful

Trump:

Trump administration will require SNAP participants to reapply for benefits
Food aid recipients are already required to recertify their information regularly. But the move is part of USDA chief Brooke Rollins’ effort to overhaul the program.

Appealing to Republican voters is a losing proposition for Dems and always has been. They need to appeal to the people deciding whether to vote or not in any given election.

This is a bad article. Many Influencers are leaving MAGA and rebranding as America First. MAGA world is in turmoil right now because Trump's antics do betray the MAGA movement. There is a reason MTG has changed her messaging. MAGA is mutating. Not for the better, but many are done with Trump.

Noah Feldman's op-ed in Bloomberg posits that "other gay rights also appear relatively safe" because SCOTUS declined to hear that Kim Davis petition. Coincidentally, he does not acknowledge the multiple anti-LGBTQ+ rulings in favor of Christian Nationalists over the last few years. So unserious.

Well...I certainly didn't expect Booker to be the first Senator to call for a change of leadership.
The Democratic party needs change. It is time for a new generation of leaders to stand up to Trump, and to all those complicit in sabotaging the American Dream. Our country needs a comeback. Americans deserve better, and if the Democratic Party is to deliver, new leaders must rise, stand, and fight.

As all this disgusting Epstein shit starts surfacing more and more, I hope we don't lose sight of the fact that apparently every major media outlet knew everything and instead spent their time money and energy attacking the trans community.

It's been pretty funny to see folks on the left who couldn't understand why the right was so obsessed with the Epstein files are now at the peg board with the red string, hair standing on end, waving their hands.

also trump, epstein, dershowitiz and how many others were considered assets by nyt.

it took miami daily herald to break the epstein story, nydn to really cover giuliani, albany times-union to break the cumo story, etc. in each case, nyt actively worked to protect key assets.

if you are going to invest yourself in the political views of an artist (don't) please don't make a science fiction writer, the genre with the most deranged cranks per capita of any artistic field.

The Pod Save America analysis of the shutdown appears to be "Whatta ya gonna do? Democrats have no power". Don't appear to think there is going to be any long term consequences to the Democrats over this. Lovett did give his snide chuckle about Dems fighting each other, so take a shot I guess.

It’s wild to suggest this is a circular firing squad or something when it’s millions of citizen Democrats who hate it versus 47 elected Democrats who conspired to surrender for nothing.

We’re not fighting “each other,” we’re fighting you. There’s only a few dozen of you, but you hold all the power.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

I’m not active on Twitter anymore but if I were I’d be so annoyed that I stopped following Joyce Carol Oates over some previous horrible take. Joyce Carol Oates is the Azealia Banks of literature. Embarrassing but very entertaining and often deadly towards people who deserve it

I'm a SNAP recipient... for the last month I was tightening my belt, doing my best to eat cheaper and eating less so I'd have a little left over to help get me through when payments were cut. It was all for nothing. Fuck the dems who supported this.
I received this email about Democrats caving to end the shutdown from one of the SNAP recipients I spoke to:

One of the many problems with the elected leadership of the Democratic Party right now is that most of us have no idea why they are doing what they are (apparently) doing. Why would they cave *right now* for essentially nothing? What is the logic, even if it's dogshit logic? Totally unclear. 1/2
