1 in 4 children experience maltreatment. Our meta-analysis on long-term implications for interoception:

Emotional abuse is negatively related to interoceptive accuracy. Child maltreatment – most notably emotional maltreatment – is negatively correlated with body trust.

Many patients with functional seizures report losing control of willful movements during episodes of heightened affective arousal, which might be related to dissociation - a breakdown in the metacognitive integration of mental functions.
