Our pilot study is the first to explore the role of metacognition in functional seizures. Still a lot of work to do! Read the full paper here: tandfonline.com/eprint/PPSNW...

We also found that metacognitive uncertainty was related to illness duration, seizure frequency, and anxiety levels. This implies that metacognition may play a role in the pathophysiology and maintenance of functional seizures.

What did we find? Patients remembered and were more confident about the emotional and action-related (button-press) pictures. This suggests that emotional and behavioral engagement enhance memory encoding and metacognitive judgments.

@popkirov.bsky.social and I wanted to understand this better - so we used a task to investigate the relationship of action, affect, and metacognition in functional seizures. Results are now out in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology! (tandfonline.com/eprint/PPSNW...)
