It’s adorable when guys dismiss Jane Austen as saccharine romantic fluff because I suspect none of her critics will write novels of such sharp comedy and keen understanding of human nature that they’re still being read by millions of people 250 years in the future.

Books about historical women composers! Most are nonfiction, however there is some fiction: novels about real composers & also fictitious ones.

There are lists of books about women composers, however none of them focus solely on fiction.

All famines are man-made, all famines are political. Historians of empire and humanitarianism have known this forever. Gaza is not starving, Gaza is being starved, by Israel, and this starvation is enabled by our government and by every other government that does not step in to force food and aid.

The vast majority of book banners fall in two categories: people who want to defund public education in all forms, and straight up bigots.

The "concerned parent" model is an extremely narrow slice.

Info on its energy gobbling should be in every news story about AI. It is newsworthy. It is inseparable from the tech itself.
It's all fun and games until …

Thread. I endorse much of this.

My take is this: we cannot ask people to keep spending money at places they feel are unethical.
i keep seeing authors who are all-in on KU complaining that boycotting amazon means it will mostly hurt small creators

and i'm like. idk. obviously aligning onesself exclusively with Amazon puts one in a position to defend Amazon's dominance, and that's not ACTUALLY good for small creators.
