Yesterday's piece from @jamellebouie.net is the only high-profile piece I've seen that specifically discusses the watchlist, its effect on academics, and its effect on public attitudes toward academia as a whole. (gift link)

BREAKING: Israel Killed Al Jazeera Journalist Anas Al-Sharif
Journalists in Gaza continue to be murdered in record numbers, while Western media outlets and reporters show little or no outrage.

Truly shameless stuff from the New York Times.
The New York Times says it used private personal data obtained by a hacker who stole millions of student records from a major US university and then shared it with the NYT’s source, who is *squints* an “opponent of affirmative action”

Lots of questionable ethical choices crammed into one paragraph:

Shabbat Shalom to everyone who recognizes that the safety, freedom & thriving of Jews and Muslims are bound up together — in Israel & Palestine, across the five boroughs, and in many other beloved places.
Lander: "It's just gross, racist bigotry. Meanwhile he's running an optimistic, upbeat campaign for a NY where everybody belongs, and I feel proud as the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in NYC to be supporting somebody who would be the first Muslim mayor—what could be more NYC than that?"

this is such good news. i think it is also an opportunity for democrats to state forthrightly that when they win power again everyone responsible for this crime will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law and will face the american people to answer for their lawlessness
I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

It's pretty clear that opposition to Israel's genocide in Gaza will be grounds for visa denials and deportations.
SCOOP—State Dept. now requires "enhanced" social media vetting for student visa applicants suspected of "ties to terrorist orgs/activity" or applicants who previously held a visa starting Oct. 7th, 2023.

This whole campaign is disgraceful. This administration which is riddled with actual antisemites is using antisemitism as a stalking horse for its campaign against all universities. A kind of elaborate and hideous gaslighting.
