Reread "Scarlet", by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev

That's Bendis's angriest comic, and it's seething with righteous resentment

Bendis has always made his stories about unfairness. Unfairness in the world, unfairness in a systemic and personal level. "Scarlet" is his most direct attack at it
What the flying fuck..?
Don't even know where to start...
Amazing. Absolutely fucking amazing.

I write, 11/26/2025
old terrifying nonsense

As I write more and think about how I'm writing and how things influence me and read more stuff about it, I gotta say I came to not an enlightenment, but a reinforcement of my core beliefs:

Dude, I REALLY like Brian Michael Bendis...

"Trinity" is such an adorable and heartfelt little miracle of a book. Allowing King to go breezy for once, and brought to incredible life by superstar Belén Ortega, queen of expressiveness. Also, I'm always happy to see cute Jason Todd (been reading some old comics and he was so happy there...)

Absolute Batman #14 was so fucking good. Dragotta is always unleashed on climaxes and here it is beautiful. Like an update on Frank Miller's hyper Batman, but on steroids and energy drinks. This book (and the whole Absolute line) continues to be the crown jewel of current DC

DC KO #2 is a lot of fun. Very self-contained, because I can't quite connect the characterization of any of these characters with the current events in their own books. If anything, it feels (and it is) like a spiritual successor to Snyder's Justice League run.

Great popcorn show, escalating nicely

We lived in a world for awhile where the priority was acknowledging that society was villainizing people who did not deserve it

And currently live in a world where bc of that people try to make truly just evil people more complex than that

"Pearl", drawn and colored by Michael Gaydos in his creator-owned partnership with Bendis is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS

What a beautiful book. I'm literally floored by it. The color choices are incredibly powerful, almost dissonant. It's insanely cool. Add to that the dramatic pacing and you have a hit

There's the whole thing about Goddard, maybe quoting Griffith

"All you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun"

And you see Bendis's bibliography and you know, I kinda have to agree

Day 26: Freddie E. Williams II

When I think Freddie E. Williams II I usually think Robin. He was in the title a little after I started reading super hero comics, and these memories stick with you, since they are from my favorite fictional place. Cool run with cool art

What’s a movie you’ve seen a dozen times and will never get tired of? 🎥

For me…House

Feels so good to have this piece of trash in prison aaah
Good morning to Brazilian reporter Manuela Borges, who’s been waiting eleven years for this petty moment. ❤️ 🇧🇷

I never read it and yet I am just endlessly obsessed and charmed by the Power Pack. Each cover is exactly as it should be: it sparks the imagination

I need to read it soon, because this just looks freaking cool

Day 25: Dani

I fucking LOVE Dani's work!! It's like Sin City on speed! The work she does with negative space and silhouettes is so unique and characteristic of her art, it's instatly recognizable and so fucking cool. I need more Dani in my life, please, keep drawing forever

Day 24: Gerald Parel

I'm not familiar with his work, but I always wanted to read this run! Imo, there was this era between Extremis and the Fraction run that Iron Man just looked like the future. Sleek and stylish. This cover is exactly that feel

I am not a professional comic writer, but I wish it so bad to be. I just have to get my shit together for time enough to make a difference

Anyway, I was probably 9, read volume 14 of the Brazilian translation of Saint Seiya and decided that day "I'm going to make manga", and that was that
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

Day 23: Frank Cho

I think this cover encapsulates both Cho and Bendis perfectly. Bendis because it's clear how he always writes with the artist in mind and Cho because of course Ultron would be a naked lady on his shift in Avengers. Man can draw, though, uncontestable

Fascinating thread
It strikes me -- not for the first time, but, well, I'm thinking about it now -- that it's kind of astounding that DC put so much trust in Julie Schwartz in the mid-70s, at a time Marvel was eating DC's lunch and comics sales overall were declining, and Julie just didn't seem to be trying very hard.

Criminally (hehe) underrated
This is such a good series, might be Vertigo's last classic

Great thread
It continues to make me sad that comics opt for "ultra-realistic" depictions (read: "ultra heterosexual") instead of focusing on beauty within form
