What an absolute champ

Played less than half the number of games I played last year

Which means I only got into the time sinkers, pass the time kind of games and engaged less this year with gaming as a whole. Was more of a movie and comic book guy this year

Tbh, the Absolute Joker was cooler to me without the monstrous form, just as "the man who doesn't laugh"

With that said, the coolest thing about this reimagining is how Snyder gives Joker these "Batmanisms", these iconic signifiers of our usual Batman. It makes for an interesting contrast

Really good issue of "Absolute Batman"

That right here is THE Scott Snyder ethos of writing. Stories within stories. And what these stories tell about us, be it the beautiful or the nightmarish

Of course, I think it's fair to say the interest of Hickman in superheroes is largely seeing the effects of these super beings that are so above human experience interacting with societal systems, how they change the world around them and how it crumbles. THAT is the big Hickman superhero formula
December 15, 2025 at 9:35 PM
After all, what is the hook of Hickman's "Avengers" if not "What if Crisis in Infinite Worlds but it's the more dysfunctional, more flawed Marvel characters?"

"A Red Mass for Mass" pits Superman against a hard sci-fi alternate history where "New Avengers" had the League as the pure Great Society
December 15, 2025 at 9:31 PM
It's also interesting to see the germinating point of some ideas Hickman would develop in later works, in this case, his "Avengers" run

"A Red Mass for Mars" has both a variation of the Builders' invasion in Infinity and a great interest in the DC Universe when compared to other scenarios
December 15, 2025 at 9:28 PM
Unsurprisingly, "A Red Mass for Mars" is both about "great men" trying to impose their will over the world and about broken systems trying to hold together. With the naming of each issue, the system this time is UTOPIA, a better world brought up by superheroes as individuals, and if it can exist

Reread "A Red Mess for Mars", from Hickman, Bodenheim and Shelly.

Cool and dry (in both the best and worst sense) superhero sci-fi tale. Really wish it had 1 more issue, it feels like some of the emotional beats just don't land, but either way, it's very fascinating. You can see Hickman developing

Tomorrow, an EP I recorded with a friend is going to be up to be listened by whoever finds it lost in the wild, and it has one of my favorite songs I've ever written. Here's wishing that people listen to it and enjoy it as much as it is important to me!

Post the last 4 games you played!

Samurai Warriors 4 DX
Final Fantasy XIV
Rolling Gunner
Nobunaga's Ambition - Sphere of Influence

Late, but just read Batman #162, aka H2sh Part 5

Jesus Christ, that's one bad issue...

I write, 08/12/2025

A 22-page one-shot. Hopefully cool.

I get ONE? Then it has to be Superman, my favorite fiction character of all time

And if so, I would choose my favorite Superman artist of all time as well, Karl Kerschl
December 8, 2025 at 6:35 PM
But yeah, been thinking about how cool it would be to power down a little some characters, make them stick to their central gimmick

MHA is very cool. Some powers are really creative and weird, and I always hope to see more of that weirdness in some new comics, which of course there is some
December 8, 2025 at 4:52 PM
Though I concede it's just the old Superman problem: when your protagonist can do anything, it is interesting to find ways and reasons for why he WON'T do it, to contrast when he does

Maybe I'm just too old for superhero comics? But I do think their power scaling is reaching absurdity
December 8, 2025 at 4:49 PM
Think Miles. Think (a little) current Storm. Think Scarlet Witch.

Wanda started changing the probability of events. Pretty cool.
But, and I love you Bendis, but what a difficult narrative problem, then she started altering the whole of reality. That is a lot to keep
December 8, 2025 at 4:47 PM
(I'm not talking about a good old "temporarily surpasses all power levels" moment. Those are almost always super exciting. I'm talking about more permanent changes)
December 8, 2025 at 4:44 PM
I do get it. I don't think it's just that, but in the social media era, with rabid fanbases, it feels like everyone wants their favorite to be more powerful (remember the whole "MAKE X MUTANT OMEGA" from Krakoa era?)

But you see, limits are cool. Limits are creativity.
December 8, 2025 at 4:42 PM
I don't consider "My Hero Academia" a superhero comic

But the one thing I feel MHA nails and current superhero comics don't is the variety of powers and sticking to the boundaries of them.
It feels like all heroes do nowadays is power up, and ironically, it dilutes their individuality

Time for the big reread
December 5, 2025 at 8:19 PM
"Ultimate Universe - Two Years In" was pretty great. Camp is reaping the payoff of all the ideas sown for maximum potential

I'm incredibly excited for the Endgame, I'm quite confident he's going to kill it

Word
December 2, 2025 at 7:28 PM
I played it again for a little bit these last months but jumped out, I can't keep the expense while not feeling super invested in playing everyday haha

I used Magik a lot. My favorite skin was one of the Momoko ones, and my Kitty variant was the Gala one, which was luxurious

Because of a recent writing project, I have been listening A LOT to "Romance is Boring" by Los Campesinos! again, and I'm just floored by the lyrics in this album. What an insightful little miracle of a song collection this is
