Thank you for this @shrinkatlarge.bsky.social

"the real avoidance isn’t on the part of those struggling to survive. It’s governmental: the avoidance of the real, the avoidance of the structural, and—most crucially—the cynical avoidance of justice."

In the middle of a flu like illness currently. Woke up last night muttering "the witch took my hands and the hands took my faith"and still can't quite shake the feeling of profundity I had in that feverish moment!

For anyone who's weary of glib responses and superficial "answers", this book faces the pain with rigour and integrity.
It’s Baby Loss Awareness Week.

After losing multiple pregnancies in my 20s, I eventually wrote The Dark Womb about theology and pregnancy loss. Part of that was a selection of prayers & liturgies - available here

Please don’t be afraid to ask your therapist about their views regarding trans rights, white supremacy, feminism etc.

We’re in a moment where ‘blank screening’ these issues is not an option imo.

It’s a matter of safety.
I had a close family member who was a quite openly racist and misogynist, who retrained as a therapist, and then bragged about telling his male clients to be shittier to their wives. And was misogynistic to his female clients. Therapists can and do bring their ideology into the room. Terrifying.
Safety Advice:

I keep seeing young trans people on social media talking about therapists disrespecting their pronouns and parents telling them that the therapist has a right to their beliefs.

I want to be clear: you have a right to the therapy room being a safe supportive space for YOUR growth.

Quakers getting arrested in parliament Square, Quakers describing bigotry for what it is. They're an example for us all.
This, from the Quakers, is a pretty good example of how to resist pressure from bigot lobbying groups. Effectively “we legally can allow trans people to use the loo, we morally should, and we tried it and nothing bad happened”

This is what politicians are for
I’ve written to Keir Starmer and Yvette Cooper demanding urgent action to ensure the safety of the Global Sumud Flotilla. 52 boats carrying aid and peace activists to Gaza.

The UK must act to assure their safety.

Israel is committing a genocide. All eyes are on this flotilla.

It gets very tedious that any time someone points out the, actually very obvious and evidence based, point that to stop more deaths in the channel you have to provide people with alternative, safer, routes to seek asylum in UK you inevitably get some dickhead saying "oh how many should we take". 1/

I can only dream of such a culture being modelled by senior NHS management. I'm hugely grateful to those, usually nearer to the coalface who do their best to live something better.
"Health and care leadership has become enthralled by performance management: dashboards, inspections and league tables...

When they dominate, care is hollowed out. People learn to perform adequacy rather than offer real care."
Vitality, not metrics: why we must reclaim the soul of care
The NHS won’t be saved by metrics – it will be saved by leaders who dare to centre care, imagination, and humanity over control

Spent most of my waking hours @greenbeltfestival.bsky.social under the apple trees in the Orchard. I love that this festival exists; the ethos, the imperfect human quest for true inclusivity, the space to remain agnostic and explore faith and spirituality. I also find it an overwhelming experience..

Like so many people, I am utterly sick of being asked to solve systemic problems that have been created by people making money out of things they shouldn’t be making money on and governments failing to regulate anything.

There aren’t enough eff offs in the world.

A billion dollars is the socio-economic equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work to prevent the former with the same intensity and ruthlessness as we work to prevent the latter.
