The world factbook was an invaluable resource in asylum petitions—a place where the federal government acknowledged in writing that, for example, Tibetans face systematic repression in China. I don’t like to have it vanish.

I have never, not once, intended to call someone via Instagram.
People who will use their free will to call you on apps that are not the telephone are serial killers.

It really be getting on my nerves too like, why are you as an oligarch not building a library? Shit!
today’s tech barons get compared to the robber barons (I’ve done it myself) but it’s notable how the current generation has responded to the philanthropic and cultural legacy of Carnegie et al with their own campaign of wanton destruction of cultural institutions

The GOP has offered nothing this century except for catastrophic wars. No healthcare plan; no re-industrialization. Now they're losing their only issue, immigration, as people see the violence and havoc that comes with mass deportations.

once again: lawyers are morally responsible for their professional decisions. people get really mad about this but … you picked the job. you took the money. you own what you’ve done.
A bizarre number of people have stepped up to defend Julie Le. What you see in that transcript is an attorney who chose to do evil work—deporting people for ICE then moving over to DOJ in early Jan. specifically to fight these habeas petitions—being called to the carpet. She's desperate, not heroic.
If you want to read the transcript of the February 3 hearing where Julie Le had her "this job sucks" meltdown, now you can:

In a sane world, the decision by Rufo, Vance, & co. to slander and slap a target on the traumatized, hardworking immigrants who revitalized a rust belt city -- and who *were invited* to that city -- would be a stain on their careers that they never live down.

They should be reminded of it. Often.

Idk what this is specifically referencing. I love Matthew 25 for showing us what following Jesus looks like. If we ever get in a high horse about how good we are it, it confronts nice white prots with the reality of the carceral state that we just slough off 🫠

The broad idea was that a single publication could give readers a reasonable reflection of the world at large and give them a view on places and ideas they might not get otherwise. For a kid in a fairly conservative Catholic culture, that was invaluable.

I have confirmed the gist of this report out of federal court in Minnesota today from a source familiar.

If you have more information about the District of Minnesota—either the court or the U.S. Attorney's Office—and how they are handling all of this, please reach out. I am at crg.32 on Signal.

so crazy to me that a woman asked trump if he has any words for epstein's victims and he said "you as a young woman should smile more." it will go nowhere bc republicans refuse to hold trump accountable, but it's still pretty crazy.

Anyone who knew my knitting in seminary would by shocked by this development. I keep doing the math to be like “is that right?” But yes this scarf was meant to be 72” at this cast on and is 112”. I could cut this scarf in half and seam the ends and have two scarves
Over the last 15 years I have worked consciously for knitting to be a relaxing activity….as a result this scarf is the correct width per the pattern. It is 40” longer than it was meant to be 😂
