you have to treat people like this with the same seriousness as you would a guy screaming at you about the lizard people on the street; they have a similar relationship with reality.
there would be no real concrete effects of an AOC presidency that would be materially different from a JD Vance presidency because they all work for the capitalist ruling class and not for us, yes including AOC. we don't need a different president we need a dictatorship of the proletariat.
This is about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

My earnest advice to you is to stop worrying about labels like "liberal" and "conservative" and think about the immediate, concrete, REAL effects of, say, an AOC presidency vs. A JD Vance presidency

My position is that I do not intend to vote for Gavin Newsom in a Democratic primary, that I would vote for any Democrat against JD Vance in a general election, and that Hasan Piker is both an idiot and a bad person.

everyone from the president down to the guys shoveling the sidewalk need to face justice and for their sake they better hope that I'm not the one to define what 'justice' means.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees β€” it was for the staff.

Anyone currently involved in federal immigration enforcement, every officer, every bureaucrat, every lawyer, every judge, is a member of the most evil group of people this country has seen since Reconstruction. Darkness personified, every one. Doing this to children is beyond depraved.

right, but my point in commenting about Stancil's observations on this issue is more to say "everyone who show up to yell at him in his mentions are largely talking about something different than what he's talking about" which describes a lot of Stancil's replyguys, really.

or item X has an outsized influence on your perception for one reason or another. Need RAM or a GPU? Maybe the huge increase in prices on those two items leads one to presume incorrectly that prices are higher on some other unrelated goods.

People aren't checking reference data on these things.
February 13, 2026 at 5:28 PM
For what it's worth, I'm not trying to be critical of Stancil's point. I just think it's an artifact of how he presents it and the medium in which it is being presented. 300ish character posts aren't really the best format for nuanced discussion.

It's ripe for a "WHY DO YOU HATE WAFFLES" thing.

We need to put QR codes with malicious code on our clothes that hijack and destroy these devices.

It's a hair less violent than a fistfight, but gets the same point across.
February 13, 2026 at 4:40 PM
This is, to some extent, I think the source of the whole "RENT IS OUT OF CONTROL" vs "the data show more nuance."

To someone trying to rent in some place where supply is constrained and cost of living is spiking, the rent will sure look out of control irrespective of what the nationwide trend is.

I think this, like many Stancil posts, is a conflation of anecdata and statistical data (single item prices vs aggregate prices).

Price of item X might in fact be up 10-50%, while in aggregate the prices of all items might not.

But to someone who buys a lot of item X it will FEEL like they did.
This is a popular explanation but if you actually talk to people they will swear up and down that prices are massively up under Trump - 10%, 25%, 50%!

It’s outright false, provably false. Inflation is under 3%. At some point we need to acknowledge that people are simply wrong.
I don't think this is right. People voted for Trump in order to get prices to go down. They haven't gone down. They've continued to go up. So, that does allow people to focus on other discontents because Trump hasn't delivered on the thing people voted for him to do

Anyone want to partner with developing a line of clothing with QR codes imbedded in the designs that launch some kind of infinitely recursive loop in these things forcing them to burnout their chips and brick them forever?

I’m sorry, they released a new class for Diablo 2? This is the equivalent to giving heroin to someone who has been more than a decade in recovery. Like, pure heroin. Heroin off a combo of Margo Robbie, Alexandra Dadarrio, Timothee Chalomet, and like 2006 Brad Pitt’s abs.

I mean, come on.

People can have different political opinions about immigration policy. Political differences are fine, healthy for a democracy.

But if you’re okay with this, that’s not a political opinion. That is a moral failing.

Remove all immigration limits.
"The paper finds, allowing immigration to go up by about 325,000 people a yearβ€”an increase of more than 25 percent over the current legal limitβ€”would reduce deaths by 5,000 annually." American lives.
