one thing about "big" right wing accounts joining over here is that it quickly becomes apparent they have no idea how to function online without a built in army of incel followers they can sic on people to harass

People going "America was always fascist" or "it's been like this since the 1980s" or making related claims don't seem to realize it, but they're telling everyone that nothing different is happening, nothing worse than usual, so if you weren't up in arms about eg 2013, you shouldn't be now either.

I live in one of those small cities where the bus is free and I can confirm that it 1) makes sense here and 2) makes the bus ride significantly more pleasant.
Bottom line: Fare-free transit can make sense in small cities where ridership is light and farebox $$ low. NYC, where 1/3 of all US transit trips occur, is the polar opposite.
Mamdani should focus on his other (generally excellent) transportation reforms. Let this one go.

I suppose there’s some hypothetical version of a textile mill you could dream up that’s ok to work in, but when we did actually have textile mills in this country they were decidedly not good places to work and there’s no reason to believe they would be any better in Trump’s America.

You know that Trump has truly gone off the rails when John Yoo, of 2002 Torture Memos infamy, declares his administration’s treatment of aliens unlawful.
Yoo was the key legal mind behind America’s use of torture at Guantanamo & Abu Ghraib. Even he calls Trump’s treatment of foreigners unlawful.
