Should I be repeating "this is not okay, none of this is okay" on social media? I do not have a following (and I block on follows), and it might harm the mental health of people I care about. OTOH if we do know each other, connect with me on Signal? Maybe social media isn't the right thing atm
People have long asked themselves what they would do when faced with mass roundups and detentions. Until recently, this question may have seemed to be asking you to imagine yourself into the past. What would you do? You would do what you’re doing right now. My new story, on California:
ICE Is Making an Example of California
The repeated targeting of California workers is a deliberate spectacle, meant to show the rest of the country what to expect if we don’t fall in line.

This story makes me sad, because I feel certain that I am also following this pattern, and that it's not going to be easy for me to address it. Like, intellectually aware of something isn't somatically aware of it, or something like that. www.insidehook.com/sex-and-dati...

I enjoyed reading this story, which rhymes with the "Houthi PC small group" story: www.lawfaremedia.org/article/anna... My takeaway isn't anything new or novel - that autocrats surround themselves with corrupt incompetents - but it's additional confirmation.

Looking west from the Rail Park in Philadelphia, you can see "The Stamp.of Incarceration", a mural by Shepard Fairey about James Anderson, a human rights activist. The Rail Park is a nice place to sit.

I'm worried that even if I know *intellectually* about this phenomenon, I might still not be able to avoid falling into this pattern. Anyone have some links to advice or techniques?

The separation of church and state, as a foundational principle of the US, is routinely, falsely, claimed to be a person-to-person norm, like "you can't tell me I am wrong". This idea (and sports) (and the electoral college) are all major causes of the crises.
It's honestly really annoying to talk to Westerners about religion at all because the conversation inevitably turns to the abstract philosophy of faith and practice while I mostly care about people justifying setting widows on fire with "it's Correct and Holy to set widows on fire".

I scrolled for a while but I didn't see this take so I am posting it, though it is trivial. "Houthi PC small group" doesn't make any sense as a chat group name unless there are several other chat groups- and certainly a big one. This is obvious, right?
