The past decade has seen grave threats and unmistakable decline. But the past few days and weeks reveal that we have entered in a new and more perilous chapter here in the U.S. It must be a call to a new kind of action. My latest. open.substack.com/pub/davidrot...

Why do so many feel like they've fallen behind?

It's not because of immigrants, trans people, DEI, the “deep state,” or any other bogeyman trotted out by the GOP.

It's because big corporations and billionaires have rigged markets and siphoned off most of the economy's gains.

Tax The Wealthy!!!

The media is reporting that a billionaire tax is a terrible idea. The media is owned by billionaires. I wonder if there's a connection...

People started understanding the economy is rigged, resulting in terrible, destructive inequality.

People understand what has been happening. Polls started showing large majorities for taxing the rich & corporations, and for regulating banks & corps, and other things.

So along came fascism

We spent a year investigating billionaires for @washingtonpost.com.

We found: the wealthiest 100 Americans gave $1.1 billion to influence the 2024 elections — 140x more than they did in 2000. And almost all of that giving boosted Republicans.

What a bunch of shit. These same democrats have no issues with socialism for Wall St and Billionaires. They only have a problem with socialism when it's used for the lower class. Every single one of these Democrats is worthless to the cause. #ClassWarfare #BillionaireWelfare #ControlledOpposition
And these 86 Democrats voted with Republicans ahead of Mamdani’s visit

Simulation-based inference has really become a commonly used tool for parameter inference across many fields and applications. We (finally...) got together to write a tutorial introduction and guide to (hopefully) help users get started and navigate the different methods and diagnostics!
Simulation-based inference (SBI) has transformed parameter inference across a wide range of domains. To help practitioners get started and make the most of these methods, we joined forces with researchers from many institutions and wrote a practical guide to SBI.

Simulation-Based Inference: A Practical Guide
A central challenge in many areas of science and engineering is to identify model parameters that are consistent with prior knowledge and empirical data. Bayesian inference offers a principled framewo...

The billionaires are hoarding the wealth and squeezing governments in the process (forcing them to squeeze the rest of us). And governments are letting them do this.

Simply put, capitalism has reached a point where such abusive things are necessary to continue the project that it rewards individuals willing to hurt anyone and do anything, creating a toxic feedback loop where the worst people are continually given the most wealth and power.

Billie Eilish asked an important question: "If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire?"

There are FIVE ways to accumulate a billion dollars:

1) Profiting from a monopoly
2) Insider-trading
3) Political payoffs
4) Fraud
5) Inheritance

Billionaires are the result of a failed system.

The neoliberal countries are under tremendous stress because the "market economics" experiment produced terrible inequality. These countries refuse to tax the rich. So cost of living increases while public services & healthcare etc decline.

Politicians point to immigrants and other scapegoats.

To repeat: I have studied a lot of cases of autocratization over the past 15 years. Wrote about them, taught about them, consulting about them.

I do not recall an opposition so apathetic, ignorant, and inept as the @democrats.org. They cling to their power, rather than fight for democracy. Shame.
