A typical day might start with Szell conducting Beethoven, followed by Lee Morgan, then Wilco and close with Sinatra.

It's not just the biggest peacetime tax increase in US history. It's also the most regressive tax increase in US history.

We all know why.
Why did Trump hit Ukraine with a 10% tariff on all imports to the US, but not Russia? 🤨

For a long time I doubted the business case for cryptocurrency. I see it now: it's the money we will use to pay the smugglers and black marketeers who bootleg bananas past Trump's border guards.

I live in a very Trump/Republican district. But I am calling today.
Again, if you've got a Republican representing you in Congress -- and I don't care who it is -- call them to complain about the tariffs. They're panicking.
Heard Ron Johnson - extremely Trumpy senator - on NPR this morning and even he couldn't defend the tariffs. The most generous thing he could bring himself to say was "I have concerns" and "we'll see what happens." You can bet that privately Republicans are freaking out.

absolutely humiliating that the people destroying america are this fucking stupid
The Trump administration also imposed retaliatory tariffs on two sets of uninhabited islands: Svalbard and Jan Mayen; and Heard and McDonald Islands.

This is an important essay.
Today @sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com and I sound the alarm on how the institutional ecology that enables America to be innovative, wealthy, and powerful, are being destroyed *right now*

Did Trump really appoint himself head of the Kennedy Center!?

Ok…not the biggest problem we face but really a great example of the farcical nature of his second administration.

For all the real threats that Trump represents, he did relatively little permanent damage in his first term. He weakened norms, but no structural destruction. My worry is that he will move beyond norm destruction in his 2nd term.

Okay, not the worst thing that will happen over the next four years -- but, we have to deal with idiot journalists saying, at various moments, "this is when Trump really grew into the presidency". Or, some variation of that. Pretty much every SOTU, I bet.

For the first time in a while overdose deaths are declining - seven straight months of declines. The cause is complicated but appears to be the culmination of a number of different Biden admin policy initiatives coming to fruition. And yet it meant absolutely nothing politically.
What’s the TLDR?

@jacobtlevy.bsky.social says what needs to be said. My God the argument of letting Trump off is risible.
Are you kidding me with this?
