Hellooo, BlueSky! Things are getting fun and exciting on here. I’m Joe Miale, writer director and here’s the opening shot of my #film REVOLT, a #scifi actioner starring Lee Pace, now on Peacock and Prime —
Having revisited FIRST BLOOD, I'll be thinking about this silhouette shot for the rest of the week—

Recently had the chance to chat with @terrorificlady.bsky.social about one of our unsung favorite ghost movies, STIR OF ECHOES. Give it a listen! #horror

Same for breaking into films. Even after making films, you’re always breaking back in. I made a spectacle short film which got me reps and meetings, in which I pitched and landed my first film. But now the world is awash with spectacle short films. I don’t think any one path is repeatable…
Half the job of breaking into writing is figuring out how to break into writing. Just writing isn't enough. There is no one way in. There are hundreds. And figuring out which way will work best for you and your work is the trick of it. Every one of us has a very different story about how we did it.

Hello BlueSky, I’m still just kinda getting started here and would love to connect. If you like chatting about films and shows and music and games and nerdy stuff, let’s go. 👋🏼

Write fearlessly. Write like your parents, your boss, your third grade teacher will never, ever read it. Write from the darkest, most private corners of your mind. Put yourself out there. The real you. The fearless you. That's where you keep the best and most real art. The art that can change us.

Nerds: “Technology will save us”
Jocks: “Strength will save us”
Goths: “Nothing will save us. None of this matters. Our brief lives are insignificant, our society built on misery hidden from us by frivolous distractions & comforting lies obfuscating the only truth: The beautiful certainty of death”
we never should’ve given power to the nerds. the jocks shouldn’t have it either. we must usher in the age of the goths

Very excited to see a “final” software update for #Highland2 with a notice about #HighlandPro coming early this year! @johnaugust.bsky.social

If you’re a #screenwriter or any kinda writer, check out Highland. Since I didn’t partake in the beta, I’m in for some surprises…

#ROBOCOP is remembered for many things, but in #filmmaking terms it plays like a masterclass in shot composition and staging, particularly using depth for relationship dynamics.

David Lynch’s ERASERHEAD was such an enigmatic inspiration at NYU when I was a film student, not so much for what the film was, but for how it was made - with determination, by a young upstart director, on nights and weekends, over a long period of time. Few approaches capture the 90s NYU vibe more…

Only took me like 30 years to see this, but TETSUO: The Iron Man is one bold, crazy #film. Huge inspirations from #DavidLynch and #Cronenberg. Clearly a forerunner to the banned #NIN video from
John Reiss with Bob Flanagan. It’s sorta Japan’s #EvilDead moment. Whoa. #filmsky

Huge compliment. Thank you. Check out the film!
They say that as a writer, you need to hook your reader in the first sentence. Well this was the equivalent of that in filmmaking because OMG
