Anne Hidalgo's positive impact on Parisian public space has been huge.

But the ultimate significance of her leadership on mobility justice is global: demonstrating what is possible really highlights the commitment of other mayors to convenience for car owners at the expense of everyone else.
“The transformation is astonishing. [Paris] has quietly—& quickly—become one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world. What started as a series of emergency ‘coronapistes’ or pop-up bike lanes, built during the pandemic has evolved into a permanent bike network spanning hundreds of kilometres.”
New Study Shows How Paris Pedaled Its Way to a Cycling Revolution
Cycling through central Paris meant weaving between buses and scooters—a bold choice reserved for the fearless few.

Perhaps we could try to make the market...not suck?
The job market in Philly sucks but fortunately it’s just a 1.5 hour Amtrak ride to jobs in NYC. Perfect if you rarely need to go to the office.

I don’t think I can do a Philly to NYC commute multiple times a week but 1-2x/month is not bad.

Philadelphia Two Million LFG!
blue state NIMBYism is just handing the keys of the country over to republicans.

I find Philly NIMBYs to be especially egregious on this front. If Philly passed a city of yes style upzoning last decade, Bob Casey would still be a senator right now
The bare reed of truth here is that MN beat out NY for the 435th congressional seat by 87 people. Basically if NYC were willing to build one (1) more high rise from 2010-2020 they would've gotten an additional house seat

Seems like it would be good if Shapiro and Hochul had a friendly race to build the next subway line.

🧵In my expert opinion as a researcher of vehicle ramming attacks, what has been publicly described in the video evidence does not support the claim that Renee Nicole Good was attempting a deliberate ramming attack when she was shot in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. 1/7

Nowy Korczyn is where my family was from. Fortunately, they emigrated earlier, but they quite possibly knew this person as a child and/or his family.
5 January 1891 | Polish Jew Borach Ostrowiecki was born in Nowy Korczyn. A merchant.

In #Auschwitz from 14 September 1941

He did not survive.

Honored to receive the 5th Square Advocacy Urbanist Lifetime Achievement Award!

Calling it a “lifetime” award in my 40s feels ambitious, but I’ll happily take it as motivation to keep pushing for better cities, better policy, and better outcomes.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

Channeling my inner @jobforphilly.bsky.social - “Why can’t us?” Ljubljana, Slovenia is a pedestrian paradise. It limits car traffic through its city center for most hours of the day. They instead have different evs that roam around offering free rides to those who need a lift.

Such a shame that the recent sanitation strike led to zero reconsideration of this policy, or the practice of doing door-to-door pickups in such a dense city. There is a cleaner, safer, cheaper, more environmentally friendly method waiting for you on your next Mediterranean vacation…

It's Sunday night. 10pm. This two-person sanitation team is out collecting items that didn't fit into the city's container systems. This is how you keep a city clean.
