OPEN FOR WORK.

Had some really cool things I got to work on since the end of May up to now, but my contracts are wrapping up this week, which means I'm jobless again! I'd love a full time W-2 job with benefits, but I think those don't exist? Anyway, my portfolio is here: jjsignal.com

I'm extremely proud of this track on so many levels, more than my more popular works, and I've been definitely feeling the need to revisit this vibe. Hopefully I will soon 💜
(also I really need to upload it to my own youtube account like damn)

Issue 5 is out now! 🦄 🎉

Featuring our incredible collaboration with Vanillaware for our Unicorn Overlord cover, interviews with some of the medium's most iconic creatives, and beautiful essays with original art from cover to cover.

Let's walk through the latest issue: 👇🧵

As it turns out, it was issue 5, not 6 that I did some stuff in! I was one of the artists for this lovely article on the host of Game Center CX, Shinya Arino, a long side Michael Azzi, who did some ridiculously good pixel art. As always, APWOT made another beautiful book.
The Unlikely ‘Father’ of Let’s Plays 🎮🎥

Japanese national treasure Shinya Arino has been the host of GameCenter CX for more than 20 years.

@lewisgordon.bsky.social meets with the comedian, host and game industry’s original ‘Let’s Player’ to discuss what makes the show so beloved to this day.

Yuichi Toyama: "At the time, we were developing “ALESTE 2” for the Mega Drive, but it wasn't a port of the MSX2 ver.—it was a completely different game. We pitched that game to SEGA, but the project couldn't get started. So we pivoted and took it to another publisher, and the result was “MUSHA."

Happy Yokai Day!

"Yokai: Shigeru Mizuki's Supernatural Parade" is out today! This is a tremendous collection of Mizuki's artwork, yokai encyclopedias, and an essay from me about Mizuki's role as a folklorist in Japan.

Zophar's Domain was always a number one go-to for me when it came to finding up to date emulators, patch tools, and raw sound files all in one place. A part of the Internet Past that's crazily still around! Zophar's Domain (and GameFAQs for that matter) still being around is pretty crazy and cool.
29 long years have passed since I founded the emulation archive, Zophar's Domain, on 11.9.96. To this very day, the site still stands as a testament to an era that never actually disappeared but continues to live in the hearts of retrogamers all over the word. Emulation Forever!

Hard to believe it's already been ten years that Gaming Alexandria has been around. Here's a (late) article about our history, as well as special thanks and small blurbs from others of what Gaming Alexandria has meant to them. Here's to another ten years! www.gamingalexandria.com/wp/2025/11/g...

Been having a real downer of a week, but Knuckles arrived. I'm really impressed with the Jakks Sonic 3 figures. Their details are fantastic, they all have impressive balance. I'm excited to see how Amy and Metal will look.

I tried the Taco Bell Baja Blast pie. It was fine! Like a middle ground between a Baja Blast flavor and key lime pie. The camera couldn't accurately capture the color, so I had to adjust it a bit.

It looks like a Nickelodeon prop.
Like a Double Dare flag should be hidden in it.

Ive got SO much video footage like this, just painstakingly comparing my PSM simulator thats in Demonschool to the official Sony PSM sdk. I had to make sure i nailed the rendering. Its 100% the same, except like... upscaled to 4k@120 (hardware dependent)

ATTENTION TO ALL MY PRESS AND STREAMING FRIENDS: As we lead in to the release of Demonschool, now is the time to get me on your podcast to talk about things, do interviews, etc. I can talk about things other than my game, but also hopefully my game. Hit me up if you want conversations like the below
Why delay a game that’s nothing like Silksong to avoid its surprise release? Because for indies, there’s just too much riding on each individual launch to chance it. Demonschool creative director @brandon.insertcredit.com explains:

If you're already thinking Square-Enix's games kinda run like shit now, just you wait.
Square Enix wants 70% of its QA work to be handled by generative AI by the end of 2027, in partnership with the University of Tokyo's Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory. https://bit.ly/4qKdyQR

My memory of Johnathan's was going to one somewhere in northern Yokohama to do some late night game dev brainstorming with a friend while he was still in the general area. We went for the unlimited drinks special. All the melon soda you'd ever want. And then there's the Cat Soup comic.
