Want to thank @acslaw.bsky.social for giving me the space to express the view that “Trump Attorneys’ Ethics Violations Require State Bar Action.” It should never have come to this but in our perilous times, action is needed now. I’m not alone. #RuleOfLaw #ACS #ncpol www.acslaw.org/expertforum/...

We were all — except apparently a certain group of people — taught “Happy Holidays” was meant to be polite because you didn’t know if the other person was Christian and even celebrated. Now it’s become a thing … utterly ridiculous. #Christmas #HappyHolidays
I grew up in the late 60’s/70’s. My parents had many Jewish & Black friends & colleagues.
I was told saying « Happy Holidays! » was the polite way of addressing people whose religious practices you might not know, but with whom you wanted to share your own holiday spirit.

We knew what it was then but now people seem to think it’s not happening again. If we don’t defeat Republicans in the fall, it’s unclear whether the U.S. will ever retain its stature of a free country. Truly.

A really great discussion. The shadow of Bush v Gore is still long despite SCOTUS admonitions in the actual opinion. #Elections #ElectionIntegrity #ncpol
Experts discuss how the Supreme Court’s 2000 ruling in Bush v. Gore changed the relationship between Americans and elections — and between elections and the courts. Listen to The Briefing with Michael Waldman: bit.ly/4j1sqXr
Bush v. Gore and the State of U.S. Elections
Listen to this episode from The Briefing with Michael Waldman on Spotify. For a generation, presidential races were blowouts. Every winner between 1980 and 1996 won by at least 37 Electoral College votes. These landslides relegated conspiracy theories about contested elections to the political fringes. Then came 2000. The last polls showed a dead heat. On election night, the networks called it for Al Gore, then retracted their calls, then called it for George W. Bush, and retracted again.Ultimately, five Supreme Court justices, all appointed by Republican presidents, put an end to the recount underway in Florida and effectively declared Bush the winner. The fractured opinions were a maze of disagreements, with the majority warning that the opinion should not be cited as precedent. Their reasoning flummoxed legal scholars — even those who agreed with the outcome. Listen as experts involved in the case discuss how it changed the relationship between Americans and elections and between elections and the courts.Speakers:David Boies, Founding Partner, Boies Schiller FlexnerBenjamin Ginsberg, Volker Distinguished Visiting Fellow, Hoover Institution; National Counsel, Bush-Cheney Presidential CampaignBarbara Pariente, Justice (retired), Florida Supreme CourtWendy Weiser, Vice President, Democracy, Brennan Center for JusticeModerator: Michael Waldman, President and CEO, Brennan CenterRecorded on December 9, 2025.Keep up with the Brennan Center’s work by subscribing to our weekly newsletter, The Briefing, at https://go.brennancenter.org/briefing.The Brennan Center is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that works to repair, revitalize, and defend our systems of democracy and justice so they work for all Americans. Ummmm …. An understatement.

Same criticism as to state GOPs. It took 10 years for state N.C. Republicans to approve Medicaid and now it’s about to disappear because there’s no plan. #ncpol #NorthCarolina #ncga

Trump’s prosecutors in Comey case are shockingly bad lawyers. But, of course, it’s hard to find good lawyers willing to pursue baseless cases.

It’s not a big story because Trump has threatened to withhold money from all types of entities before. It’s normal antisocial conduct yet again striking at the rule of law. State governments need to resist like Indiana did and not capitulate. #RuleOfLaw #ncpol
This should be the biggest story in the country right now. The sitting US President was extorting state lawmakers from his own party by threatening to withhold public money if they didn’t gerrymander for him.

I don’t know how else to say it…

Sad. Just sad. What had our country become?
Immigrants ‘plucked out of line’ at citizenship ceremony at Faneuil Hall “the cradle of liberty”.

If you ever claimed you want immigrants to do it the right way, this should outrage you. On the other hand, If you think this was okay, you need to come to terms with your white nationalist views.

This is the bottom line. #RuleOfLaw
I didn't vote for Trump either time, not because he ran under the Republican banner, but because I knew what kind of man he was. He's proven me right in so many ways during his second term in office, it's sickening and demoralizing to see what he's done to our once proud nation. 🗽

Today we remember the thousands of Americans who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor 84 years ago. Nearly half of those lost were aboard the USS Arizona, and I remember what a moving experience it was when Gabby and I visited the memorial. We’ll never forget their sacrifice.

It would give Americans visual evidence of how the Trump administration is upending the rule of law, ie, a picture says a thousand words. #RukeOfLaw
