Kind of amazing how as Chuck Schumer’s stock has dropped because Democratic voters see him as rolling over to Trump, Kathy Hochul’s stock has shot up for aggressively opposing Trump (and endorsing Zohran Mamdani).

November 9 was the 138th anniversary of Svante Arrhenius’s “On the Dissociation of Substances Dissolved in Water,” Z. Phys. Chem., I, 637 (1887), describing how electrolytes break up into ions in aqueous solution. #ChemSky 🧪 Read the short paper here: www.chemteam.info/Chem-History...

Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

My post of Decision Desk's decision to call the Seattle mayor race for Harrell last week didn't hinge on who would ultimately win: The point was that a "call" isn't a race to get a prediction right.

But Wilson now being ahead should at least bring more attention to the importance of not rushing.
Calls are about certainty and not risking people's confidence in the final result. Speeding through for competition is not good and irresponsible.

Roy Cohn was a mentor to Trump and Joseph McCarthy’s chief council. We are one degree of separation from the red scare
I totally agree that "‘woke’ now performs the job that ‘communism’ did in the 1950s” -- but I'm sort of bemused that "communism" is also still doing work in our current Red Scare
Over the last 10 months, the federal government has cracked down on political expression with a persistence and viciousness reminiscent of some of the darkest periods of U.S. history. Welcome to the Third Red Scare.

New: I did a super quick audio update—a 'Breaking Basket'—about how SNAP recipients are feeling about Dems helping to reopen the government, and the lawsuit from states' AGs to protect their benefits.

(This is new format I'm experimenting with, so bear with me!)

CVS is best thought of as a kind of interactive museum exhibit where you can experience everything that has gone badly wrong with American capitalism.
You almost have to respect how CVS keeps frantically changing their systems like every other month and each time it gets progressively worse

Let people read in peace. I care less about what you’re reading than the fact that you’re reading a book. Hardcover, paperback, kindle, audiobook. They all count. New book, old book. Black book, blue book.
Oh fuck off

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Imagine a world where people choose to spend most of their day on social media, a metaverse of sorts, that is completely populated by AI. It's like they are choosing to hook themselves into the matrix. And many of them think that they'd choose the red pill not the blue one.

I’m no great fan of the ACA.

I believe we should guarantee health care as a human right through a single-payer Medicare for All system.

But — at minimum — we cannot allow Republicans to destroy our already-broken system by doubling insurance premiums for 20 million Americans.
