I missed this piece in @splitlipthemag.bsky.social back in May. @cindyhouse.bsky.social is one of my favorite writers and this a great example of why. She manages to evoke sadness, hilarity, and anger in under 1,000 words.

I remember the house, can see it even now, though it was over a decade ago when I lived there.

Not saying that democrats are any great shakes, but this republican administration literally went to court so they would not have to feed hungry children. In the richest country on earth.

"I watch the EMTs strap my daughter to a stretcher. She tells me she loves me; I tell her I love her, too. I brush her dimpled hand in parting, hoping it never loses that babylike softness."
Y'all! This piece by @mooninabucket.bsky.social is brilliant and heartbreaking.
When My Daughter Says She Cut Herself at School
Francesca Leader I hear her say she didn’t mean to cut so deep. That her father left his razor out (though I begged him to be careful), so she took it, just in case. She tells me the blade’s sharpn…

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

Has anyone else seen the White House website lately? It’s like Saturday night live, the onion, and George Orwell got together to make a parody.

I can’t believe I’m watching interviews of city mayors talking about how they are coordinating with other mayors to discuss how to protect their residents FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

I know we are “used to it” but it is absolutely insane

“It was great seeing you. We need to keep in touch. Here are some pictures and videos from the funeral.”

Love the dark humor in this piece from Katrina Ralbag.

People of Illinois, we need your help.

Get your cell phones out – record what you see. Put it on social media. Peacefully ask for badge numbers and identification. Speak up for your neighbors.

We need to let the world know this is happening – and that we won’t stand for it.

Yes, and I've found that Korean zombie shows do a pretty good job of this. All of Us are Dead is a nice example. It's a bit campy at first, but grows on you (at least it did for me).
My take: Zombies deserve more plot and conflict time in apocalypse shows. They should not be manageable backdrop for sociopathic survivors, nor should they level up into coordinated armies. The violence should be awful and messy and intimate. No one is a perfect shot.

Raising property tax on one & two-family homes, lowering taxes on developer properties, increasing the cost of parking tix, adding an additional tax to entertainment tickets (high-school & college sports, theater, music venues)... these local "progressive" legislators sure do like their reaganomics.

Curious about what people think, here. Not about bluesky "dying," but about how to connect and build an online community.
I keep seeing that “BlueSky is dying,” and I’m still trying to figure out how to even use this space to connect with people I lost when Elon broke Twitter.
