Dual class 🇺🇸/🇮🇹 (siciliana, e imparando italiano). I’m a mushroom forager, parent to two very cool kids, silken windhound owner, and food obsessive; be ready for me to be annoying about all the above. PNW now, CA before, PNW before that. She/her

Omg no wait, NOW it’s a yearbook photo
In our Tokyo hotel room the toilet lid opened automatically a couple seconds after entering the WC, with a timing that seemed PRECISELY calculated to make you jump and go "AAaugh!!!"

I called it the Sirius Cybernetics toilet all week; I swear the damn thing was CHEERFUL. Somehow.

We are at an airport restaurant. A robot just drove up to us with our food, said, "Hi! Here I am!" and then drove away with our food.

The wonderful thing about Tyggers
Is Tyggers are burning bright
Their tops are made out of rubber
In the forest of the night

What bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy,
Immortal hand or eye
Did frame the most wonderful thing about Tyggers,
Their fearful symmetry!

I have a 13 year old whose special interest is the marine science and whose favorite ocean animal category is siphonophores, so… I reckon I am in the 99th percentile of hearing about siphonophores lol. Join me!

(They’re really very very cool!!)
Sorry I haven't been posting a lot, been super busy! Meet Siphonophores! #LetsChangeThat

Landed in Seattle from Tokyo, but that’s not important. Look! Even though it was a HA coded flight they ran it on Alaska metal, specifically one of the new 787s with the super sharp international livery. #avgeek time

Okay, I appreciate that this ryokan came in during dinner and tucked fuzzy hot water bottles into the foot of the beds. Much cozy, v hospitality, etc. But Jesus fuckin CHRIST I sincerely thought for a second that I had just extended my feet into some kind of Creature and nearly had a cardiac event

shooting up contraband cancer mRNA vaccine behind the Cyber Arby’s in 2034. the Ring camera on the Wells Fargo across the street recognizes my shape using LIDAR and releases an HHS sanctioned Bobby’s Bullet Buddy drone that shoots each of my nuts clean off one at a time

This is the bath on the balcony attached to the semi outdoor shower, overlooking a pleasant river and surrounded by birds. Later there will be a delicious kaiseki dinner. Promised land confirmed

It’s our last night in Japan and we are on an adorable tiny red bus being taken to an onsen ryokan up in the hills, I feel like I’m approaching the promised land

Researchers determined artifacts in a Central Oregon Cave are the oldest known examples of sewn hide. They date back more than 12,000 years and could be an example of late Ice-Age clothing.

I need to figure out how to become a professional business-trip-wife activities coordinator; tagging along on Katie’s Japan trip and planning all our evening activities / transit / food reservations / snacks / etc so they don’t have to think about any of it is the part I was born to play

I cannot recommend watching the video of this talk highly enough; it is a captivating tale told with skill and delight. Solid joyful anecdote amidst the Horrors
over a year ago, i gave a talk at the xoxo conference about a mural, a mcdonald’s, and a man. (but it was also secretly about life, and legacy, and meaning.)

finally, i’m blogging the full story, with behind-the-scenes details, and a video of the talk.

enjoy. cabel.com/wes-cook-and...

God damn, Federal Way continuing to not beat any of the allegations
Wow. He was removed from his position in a Seattle suburb for supporting a student walkout against ICE. Looks like sweeping change will have to come to the Federal Way City Council, and oust the 4 pro-ICE councilmembers.
On a 4-3 vote, Federal Way Councilmember Martin Moore was just removed from his position as Council President.

Longtime Councilmember Susan Honda was voted in to replace him.

Citrus 1: Fine, like if I bought it at a CA farmers market I wouldn’t be mad about it but I’d prob pick a different stand next time

Kumquats: Pretty good!

Citrus 2: OUTSTANDING

And… I regret to inform the $12 strawberries rivaled the best in season berries from home, pure witchcraft, like wtf
