Chlorociboria is allegedly rare, but I honestly find it every time I go out in the PNW woods and think to look for it. That beautiful turquoise teal blue is unmistakable. It is the color of the mycelium spreading through the wood it is decomposing and consuming. So sick

Last night I made matsutake gohan & miso roast cauliflower & shoyu dashi braised chicken thighs last night. I had it warmed and ready to go for the kiddos after a round of classic cold PDX rain trick or treating and it was maybe a perfect meal for that exact moment

We have a giant rain storm rolling in, so obviously last night I was out in the windy yard with a goddamn flashlight re-enacting the story arc from Calvin & Hobbes where Calvin loses Hobbes outside, looking for Caper’s beloved treasured Monster. (Fortunately he was found in a bush)

I usually cook all my steaks sous vide, but it’s nice to remind myself that I do just fuckin fine with a hot pan and a thermometer (also pictured: a lovely jumble of sautéed chanterelles and cauliflower mushroom / Spirassis I pulled out of the forest today)

I can’t speak to home grown varieties in terms of alcohol infusion potential, but matsutake vodka is extraordinary, as is black trumpet. Candy caps are glorious in bourbon or mild rum (just be aware your pee WILL smell like maple syrup afterwards). Candy cap old fashioneds are especially wonderful!

Couldn’t have asked for nicer weather for the group I led out today to learn the basics of mushroom ID. My students literally ranged from 8 to 80, and we had a blast!
