I’m here to read books and pet cats, and I’m all outta — actually, no, I have plenty of both. Excellent.

I also make software and opine about everything. I only get paid for one of those things, though.
I'm still not over how unsettling I find this — right *now* they're hunting willing volunteers, but for how long?

in another example of "this is too on-the-nose for fiction", rich people be hunting humans now

I just think people should read a book before they make it into a big-budget movie, is all

The method taught is unhyperbolically exactly how LLMs work and exactly why LLMs are completely incoherent proportional to how far below “critical mass” (the Large in Large Language Model) the training data (or mandatory teacher in this case) is and why they can’t self improve
I had previously read that lots of kids had been taught to read in a very ineffective way, and I was like oh, that might be why so many folks struggle with spelling.

What I had not grasped is that those kids were actually taught to *pretend* to read.

It’s, uhhhhh, not great.
how did i go so long not knowing we were literally teaching people to read wrong. i knew something wasn't right but jesus christ www.apmreports.org/episode/2019...

If only we had a REALLY BIG collective, like, say, all of us, that could work collectively to get better deals on healthcare. I think they’ve tried something like that in a few other places.
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

She writes good books, too (one of which — in which caring about one’s fellow people, human or otherwise, is the ultimate secret weapon — I just finished earlier tonight)
Schumer would sell his soul to the devil for a box of Cheezits and a promise that Satan will totally think about torturing him less.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

So who’s the least disappointing Democrat senator who can replace Schumer? Not mine in Virginia, obviously.

I should probably be tagging my posts so people can filter them but oh well. Sorry, followers, if this sort of thing is annoying.

One of my senators is acting like he was endowed at birth with a spine; the other, alas, is not.

The only state with more federal employees than Virginia is California, so you know we’re suffering here, as the shutdown drags on, but this namby-pamby bullshit is not what we need from our leaders.

Maybe, just maybe, proclaiming “let them eat cake” on the eve of an election was a bad move for republicans?

Hot damn
BREAKING: Democrats just broke the GOP supermajority in the Mississippi Senate!

In a stunning victory, Democrats gained seats in court-ordered special elections and will now head to Jackson to represent and fight on behalf of their constituents.

Hopefully this will be a wake-up call to democrats that if you just fucking stand for something, and give people something to believe in, and a reason to hope for better things, people will turn up for it.

As a resident of Virginia, thank goodness 😅

You can tell our society is really broken, because it should be the case that shitty, selfish behavior is punished, and cooperation is rewarded, because the latter is so more effective at getting things done, especially at scale.

But it’s not. Assholes are regularly rewarded and frequently revered.

I kind of hate whoever did the landscaping at the front of my house. Boxwood, for the 18" strip of ground between the house and the sidewalk? Nandina, anywhere???

Fun fact: nandina is not only poisonous (all parts of it, if eaten by animals), but it smells like B.O. when you trim it.
