Next police budget should at minimum be cut by this amount. Year after year WRPS received rubber stamped budget increases with very little pushback from politicians. This is what happens when cops think they can do whatever they want and take as much money as they want from tax payers.
Interesting to see some of the Mayor's critiques (all valid, in my opinion) of the WRPS lately. While Vrbanovic would still no doubt consider himself a big supporter of the police, he clearly has concerns about their approach to some things recently. www.therecord.com/news/council...

Just got my Public Lending Right money from Canada Council. And for the firs time ever, it's pretty good money ($1500). This is thanks to you taking my books out at the library. Keep doing it! And do it for your favourite authors! Even if you don't read the books!!

All of my group chats are responding to Homan’s announcement by asking everyone to double down because:

1. ICE is still out there and abducting people today. We can’t trust the occupation is over until we actually see it.

2. People are going to be in an economic crisis for a very long time.

It's remarkable how often the loudest people complaining that journalists are liars and biased are also the first people to share whatever random bullshit pops up in their social media feeds when there is a mass shooting or terrorist attack

I write about policing and urban design in my book. Policing makes us less safe, but urban infrastructure and design can certainly make us more safe!
It’s because the goal is not safety but policing, and that has more to do with control than anything else. Groups of people gathering, the very basis of community, is by default seen as suspicious. That’s why their preferred designs all have to do with limiting human interactions.
In my experience police have no idea how urban design can and should achieve MANY public goals. They don’t even know how to design for safety.

If someone kidnapped my kid and then took him to McDonald’s that person is still a kidnapper
Lyons says ICE agents actually "took care" of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos when they detained him, before shipping him off to a horrific Texas ICE facility.

He says ICE officers "comforted him" as they chased his dad, put him in their car to play "his favorite music, then took him to McDonalds."

Scott: "I don't need a pardon from anybody."

Thanedar: "You better hope so because you will be held accountable for the absolute disregard of the law your agencies have shown over the past year."

STOP BEING REASONABLE WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE BUILDING CONCENTRATION CAMPS, TORTURING CHILDREN, ENGAGING IN DOMESTIC STATE TERRORISM, AND COMMITTING MURDER
Our DHS reform demands are exceedingly reasonable.

We're asking ICE to do nothing more than follow the standards that the vast majority of law enforcement agencies already follow.

Republicans, the ball is in your court. The clock is ticking.

the actual Republican parents who support the politicians pushing for this think the effort and money they spent parenting are wasted if their kids turn out different from them.

You eliminate that possibility by eliminating the public existence of other kinds of people.
This might be a hot take, but if parents are so concerned about what their kids see online, then they should actually do some damn parenting themselves instead of campaigning for governments to make things worse for everyone.
