Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Sometimes the irony of post-capitalism is just too much.

Husband had a layover at O’Hare on the way back from a funeral in the Midwest and stopped to pick up our family’s preferred Chicago popcorn in the terminal.

Or, how I know he’s a keeper.

confused about why literacy rates in the United States are plummeting? the answer is infuriating: poor literacy amongst the working class benefits oligarchs & other fascists.

check out this short video from Michael Parenti on how reading is a revolutionary act:

I for one embrace my Canadian overloads, eh.
Canada could end up winning the World Series and taking over the United States.
Enten: "Canada is far more popular than Donald Trump is here in the United States. The net popularity of Canada is +49. Trump is -10. We're talking about Canada coming out nearly 60 points ahead on the net popularity ratings versus Donald Trump here in the US"

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro says 'I'd rather die' than use generative AI
Del Toro's new Frankenstein adaption reimagines Mary Shelley's 1818 Gothic novel. Frankenstein was like a tech bro: "creating something without considering the consequences," he explains.

Forgot I had installed the MyShake app until the earthquake a few minutes ago.

It yells at you to find cover, which is great except when it’s 3am and your half awake self that was just shook up shrieks at your whole family who slept right thru to duck and cover.

RFK Jr. rolled out that old chestnut again about how healthy Americans were in the 60’s, so here’s a fact check.

In 1965:

-42% of American adults smoked; it’s 11% now.

-The infant morality rate was 24.7/1000; it’s 5.6/1000 now.

-Overall life expectancy was 70 years; it's about 77 years now.

EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS infuriating, deplorable account of what one trans woman in the U.K. has gone through as a result of the country's shifting laws (particularly as they have moved toward explicit hatred this year).

Just read it. My God.
I want to explain a few things and then it might be clearer why UK trans people are upset.
In 2001 I married my wife, Sylvia.
In 2005 I started medical transition. (1/13)

Coming of sexual age in an era defined by the knowledge that, “if you have sex? You might contract a terrible disease, be intensely stigmatized by everyone, die a horrible lingering death, and also doom those you love to that fate”
And then seeing people die? Yeah, that had an effect on Gen X
people often ask what’s wrong with gen x, and, like, there are a lot of answers, but i think the AIDS epidemic and the specific people it wiped out is probably an under discussed contributor to the bomber with red dots diagram
