If you're looking for more rpg-related YouTube channels that aren't actual plays, check out Weird Place. They remind me of PBS's Idea Channel from almost 10 years ago. Very relaxing, informative watches.

”When MÖRK BORG came out, it didn’t come out of nowhere. It was the outcome of everything that the movement had been working towards. … All of the things that had been bottled up in OSR zine culture came pouring out into a single book, with the confidence of a manifesto.”

The Berlin of the 1920s is often associated with a certain excess and decadence, but it was a different side of the city — the “sobriety and desolation” of its industrial and working-class districts — which came to obsess the painter Gustav Wunderwald: publicdomainreview.org/essay/g...

I wrote a blog post on an OD&D campaign I'm starting soon, as well as outlining a procedure inspired by Turn Undead to make people shit themselves.

Concept: chess with literally no rules changes but every piece has an elaborate backstory that the player must read before play begins. Sure, it’s easy to sacrifice a faceless nameless pawn, but not so easy when you know about their life story and everything that got them to this war

I woke up and chose violence today. Do I'll day it with my full chest. Fuck AI! The TTRPG space is built on heaps on creativity and using it cheapens the hard work countless artists, writers and game designers put into it. While the picture is images, I mean all Gen Ai uses!

Resource scarcity is a mechanic of horror in #TTRPG. Ammo, food, time, water, medical supplies, magical/scientific whatsits, safe areas... It all contributes. Does it make things a bit spreadsheet-y? It can. But is also makes things more urgent, concerning, and adds stakes to actions. 1/2

Every scene in this is a potential game. Amazing!

'All these contrivances had to be planned, and made, and transported. And fed. And it must have tired the imagination of the men of the first world to think of occupations for so many machines.'

Some RPGs don’t just teach rules—they speak in poetry. 🎲 From MÖRK BORG’s apocalyptic verses to Troika!’s dreamlike absurdity and Into the Odd’s quiet minimalism, their words shape how we play. Read the full piece: Designers as Poets. ✒️ #TTRPG #OSR #GameDesign
Designers as Poets: The Literary Voice of RPG Rules Texts
When we think of RPG designers, we often think of "engineers of the imagination" – those fastidious minds who measure balance, calculate chance, and draw charts. But, at times, a designer sits down to write a rulebook and creates literature. Not a manual, not a set of instructions – but something that hums with rhythm, breathes tone, and is undoubtedly art.

#MÖRKTOBER DAY 15: NAILS
