Fiber artist and dabbler in other creative media. Retired veteran of the tech world. I delight in learning things and explaining them. Oh yeah, and about as queer as they come.
My first weaving pattern just got published at Gist!

It’s called “Radiant Gradient” and I wrote it almost a year ago so it’s fantastic to see it out in the world!

Someone on r/weaving asked if it was possible to create a 4s version of my recent shadow weave project, so I made one. Draft on handweaving.net:

The discovery of 32-million-year-old #kelp holdfasts from the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, means that this group of marine foundation species is twice as ancient as previously thought & highlights the vastly different communities that kelps have supported over time. phys.org/news/2024-01...

Out today, a whole collection of hopeful scifi stories full of non-human charcters, including a weaving animal, a roomba, & a couple of ecosystems. Featuring my flash story The Business of Bees, in which a cat investigates suspicious insects around a future city.

It's wild how many people believe absolutely that both a) making a planet which isn't Earth inhabitable will be super easy, and b) stopping ourselves from making Earth uninhabitable is absolutely impossible.

I am supposed to fly across the continent today on Alaska Air. The recent airplane accidental depressurization and the coming storm make me think this trip is unlikely to go to plan. Meh.

I feel like I am just waiting for bad news.

Repaired a threading error. This is a sampling warp so it doesn’t really matter, but it bugged me.

I feel incredibly fortunate because for me personally 2024 has been a year of unprecedented growth and general happiness.

The world is going to shit and essentially everyone I know is suffering. I’m conflicted about even posting this because it feels unfair that I am in this smol bubble of happy.

Reporting in from the fundraising trenches! We still haven’t yet even reached 20% of our very necessary goal. Can you help spread the word, pitch in a little cash, or both? Anything you can do to help us keep our doors open is deeply appreciated! Thank you! www.classy.org/campaign/sup...

These cards are a fantastic idea!

Are there any decent entry level laser cutters these days for small projects? On the scale of the Cricut for fabric?
And my card, with flat-pack cube showing Cuttle features on each side, and different taglines on each card. (Cuttle.xyz is our parametric CAD app for laser cutters that started to break even this season, bless the personalized ornament makers.)

Finding it increasingly jarring that so much presumably realistic contemporary fiction these days takes place in an alternative universe in which the pandemic never happened

I am having a productive Monday in the studio. Beaming a new warp and cleaning up the Pioneer Loom I finally found after a year of searching. I had one in Seattle, sold it before I left, and had Regrets almost immediately. Also a pic of my next sample draft.

More info in alt text.

@pfrazee.com do you manage the iOS client? There is a defect with scrolling on profiles.

tldr: if the profile description is too long it isn’t possible to scroll. See alt text for details of the repro.
