over a year ago, i gave a talk at the xoxo conference about a mural, a mcdonald’s, and a man. (but it was also secretly about life, and legacy, and meaning.)

finally, i’m blogging the full story, with behind-the-scenes details, and a video of the talk.

Wes Cook and the Centralia McDonald's Mural
A personal story about discovering a mural in a McDonald's, an unknown artist named Wes Cook, saving the mural, and a conference talk about the whole thing.

Helsinki transport had a phase last year where they demanded ID to make sure you weren't using someone else's ticket / phone. Felt wrong, but I didn't look up if it was legal.
the idea of having to identify yourself or being required to have an id is authoritarian and just completely fucking insane

Thursday sky was doing some kind of optical effect with the sunrise, and @jhilden.bsky.social got this picture, which I had to enhance with fuego Elmo.

I found Projective Geometries by wondering how the card game Spot It! works.

One way this could work:

Amy replies to Bob's post, and it shows as a quote post on Amy's profile.
If Bob approves it, then it also shows as a reply under Bob's post.

This kinda unifies replies vs quotes, which people use inconsistently, and makes it easier to ignore bad replies,
I still think that replies should need to be approved to show up.
I've never really had "numbers" >10 though, so I'm speaking as someone who accidentally looks at replies on occasion.

Sorry @zed.dev and @zen-browser.app... one of you is going to need to add some color to your logo or something.

Boomer family member AI-edited a summer family photo to add xmas sweaters. I can see that being innocent fun for them, but everyone under 50 was uncomfortable with it. We said please don't, but I wonder if there's some good articulation about why we shouldn't fake memories.

If there is room, is it more efficient to keep 12 liter boxes of oat milk in the fridge, or in the cabinet and chill them as they are used?

Could an open source tool build such a scene?

Review of Lily Allen's new album: it's like a tv series of a messy failing open marriage. It's cool to turn an album into a coherent story. People that do creative stuff should keep coming back to it.

okay. so there are often a few dessert recipes that share things (type of dish; fruit) in common but this is really kicked up for fall. just about everything that isn’t pumpkin is apple or pear & one of the variety of “baked fruit w/ starch on top”, to the point where they offer a guide to the types

#30daymapchallenge 17: A new tool
Helsinki enjoyed a grand total of 12 minutes of sunshine in November (1.–13.11). No better time to remember that yes, the sun does still exists.

This map shows Helsinki's shadiest / sunniest places. New tool? #GRASSGIS solar modelling.
