Sharing some encouraging news re: CDC PRAMS. The CDC has indicated they will weight and clean the 2024 PRAMS data. Also, the PRAMS data collection system (PIDS) is up and running again and some sites have begun 2025 PRAMS data collection. Hopefully restoration of the ARF portal is coming soon too.

Thus, while COVID-19 vaccines offered many benefits to the U.S., there may have been some costs in terms of exacerbating workforce shortages in healthcare

These findings underscore the complexities of promoting public health through policy

We find that state mandates requiring healthcare workers to receive a COVID vaccination ⬇️ the probability of working in the healthcare sector by ~6%

Though some workers entered the healthcare sector post-mandate, worker exits more than offset entries, leading to the overall ⬇️

17 states adopted a vaccine mandate

We combine difference-in-differences & event-study methods with the 2021-2022 Current Population Survey

We study the probability of working in the healthcare sector & transitions into/out of the healthcare sector by linking respondents over time in the CPS

COVID-19 vaccines are effective in ⬇️ risk of serious illness & death

Some people - including some working in healthcare - are reluctant to receive a vaccine due to concerns about safety etc.

Pre-COVID-19 the U.S. experienced worker shortages in the healthcare sector & the pandemic worsened these
