Guitarist Pat Metheny requests that “fusion” not be used in reference to his music; he prefers the term “Big Wave," explaining: “It's a combination of New Wave and surfing music." ("Potpourri," DownBeat, Vol. 47, No. 2 (Feb. 1980), p. 12)
most welcome

Easy to forget that Duke didn't only make big-band stuff, this was a lovely relaxed small-group session lost in the vaults from when it was recorded in 1960 until it got a release in 1979.

And bought by me in the same year from Doug Dobell's shop.

Understood. As for "For Bunita Marcus" @kirkdalebooks.bsky.social has a version by Marc-André Hamelin that they seem to play a lot. The cover of it always reminds me of Supertramp's "Crime of the Century"

not to pile on, heh, but I "found" this in my Bandcamp collection today. I can't remember who suggested it, but it had to be someone I respect otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. Thought you might be interested. Seems to be digital only unfortunately: helenabasilova.bandcamp.com/album/morton...

Instead: what’s your favorite song that has a long title, say at least 6 words long?

Mine: “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” (Pearl Jam)

'Jazz from Detroit' Now In Paperback!

I've been so preoccupied promoting my film, "The Best of the Best: Jazz from Detroit," that I've neglected to announce that my book, "Jazz from Detroit," will be published in a fully revised paperback edition on Feb. 11.

Listening now & the music is worthy in its own right but the introduction by the radio host is a fantastic example of audio description - of which alt text is a descendant

This is a production decision but it’s also an accessibility practice benefitting *everyone* unable to see the performers
btw that youtube channel with the terry riley live set is legit one of the richest musical sources I've ever found on the internet. when the riley performance ended it served this masterpiece up next www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ap5a...

Humans are convinced life is a drama, because we're living it. But it would be comedy to anyone watching us.

Veep is more real than West Wing. Scrubs more real than ER. And yes, My Cousin Vinny more real than any episode of Law & Order.
Just another datapoint in my "'My Cousin Vinny' is the most realistic depiction of the practice of law in all of cinema" theory.
